Network Engineer
Location: Hybrid; within driving distance to Chicago office (60631) or Bloomington, IL.
Note: This is not an enterprise position. Seeking network engineering experience in SMB (small to medium size businesses)
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Network Engineer to design, deploy, and manage network infrastructures tailored for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in network engineering, a passion for addressing complex challenges, and a commitment to maintaining high network performance and security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design and Deployment:
- Contribute to the design, configuration, and implementation of network solutions supporting telecommunications services for SMBs. Ensure that all designs are compliant with industry standards and can scale as the business grows.
- Work on core components of internet service providers, manage wide-area networks (WANs) and ensure consistent service delivery to clients.
Telecommunications Network Management:
- Oversee and optimize telecommunications networks, including mobile networks, VoIP, and other communication systems.
- Implement and manage systems that support voice, data, and video communications.
Network Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Continuously monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues affecting network performance. Conduct regular maintenance and updates to ensure the network's stability and security.
- Address latency concerns and maintain uptime for a large customer base.
Project Participation:
- Engage in projects involving new product launches, updates to existing products, and the integration of new routers and other hardware.
Collaborative Efforts:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, system administrators, and project managers, to ensure the seamless integration of network services.
Security Protocol Implementation:
- Develop and manage security protocols to safeguard against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other threats to network security.
Performance Optimization:
- Regularly assess and fine-tune network performance to boost efficiency, reduce latency, and improve the overall user experience.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of network architecture, configurations, and processes to facilitate knowledge sharing and operational continuity.
Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network engineering.
- Proficiency in network protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, and OSPF.
- Experience with network hardware, such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- In-depth knowledge of network security principles and practices.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, capable of resolving complex technical issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) are advantageous.
- Experience in network engineering within the telecommunications sector.
- Familiarity with cloud networking platforms, such as AWS or Azure, is a plus.
