Overview:
- This Network Engineer will be responsible for strategic network planning, design, and optimization. Develops cutting-edge network solutions
using current and emerging technologies, including wireless infrastructure. Translates business needs into effective
network designs, recommending hardware, software, and architecture. Ensures compliance by reviewing and
modifying network designs. Manages configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, and wireless hubs.
Evaluate and endorse new products while staying updated on emerging technologies. Proactively monitors network
performance, conducts capacity planning, and offers improvement suggestions. Proficient in troubleshooting and
devising resolution protocols. Assumes Project Leader role for enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network
systems (including wireless) of moderate complexity. Participates in network planning, network architecture
design and engineering. Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies,
hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations.
Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution and assists in the development and
documentation of technical standards and interface applications. Monitors protocol compatibility, performs
system tuning and makes recommendations for improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
• Possess expertise in network configuration spanning DMARC to workstations, fiber distribution, routers,
switches, DHCP, and topology to ensure excellent Quality of Service (QoS).
• Plan, implement, and forecast copper and fiber network systems (including wireless) of moderate
complexity, managing resource requirements effectively.
• Mentor junior staff on patch management, network management, fault identification, and data/telecom
access.
• Extensive experience with enterprise switching products, including capacity and risk assessment,
contingency planning, and lifecycle management.
• Active participation in team projects, meetings, and assignments.
• Must know the OSI model and how it pertains to the flow of data throughout the environment.
• Proficiently configure and manage network switch equipment, ensuring protocol compatibility, system
tuning, and enhancement recommendations.
• Strategize Infrastructure equipment replacement, adhering to security standards and keeping systems
updated.
• Collaborate with the Information Security Team on firewall rules and compliance with Payment Card
Industry standards.
• Adhere to Departmental Procedures and Policies, including on-site travel for issue resolution and resource
deployment.
• Accurate tracking of incidents and IT equipment transfers/relocation through service desk ticketing
systems.
• Document technology solutions for addressing issues and streamlining processes.
• Contribute to Property Management Reports (PMRs) creation and tracking.
• Participate in after-hours (evening & weekend) on-call rotation
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds when necessary.
• Travel to remote locations to provide support, as needed

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work
experience.
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of IT work experience in infrastructure/network environments performing network
engineering (hardware and/or software), design, planning and implementation.
***Experience with HPE/Aruba networking equipment is highly desired.***
Note:
As a member of the technology team, they need the ability to be contacted to respond to requests /incidents. The
vendor is required to provide the contractor with a smartphone with data service that complies with FDOT agency
security requirements. Smartphones must be able to receive security updates from the manufacturer or carrier
and maintained throughout the contractor's tenure at the agency. The contractor will utilize mobile applications
such as Outlook, Teams & ServiceNow, which should also be kept up to date through the platform application
store.
Complexity:
Intermediate professional level role. Works on projects/ systems/issues of medium to high complexity
surrounding network planning, configuration and optimization. Works on one or more projects as a project
team member, occasionally as a project team lead. May coach more junior technical staff.
Onsite to Hybrid Schedule:
The position is designated as a hybrid role, with a general expectation of working onsite for two to three days per
week. The specific number of onsite days may vary depending on workload, project demands, or team
collaboration needs. Anyone who is new to FDOT should be successful in their position for at least six (6) months before being
considered for a hybrid schedule.
