Long Lines is looking for a Network Engineer with 5 years’ experience in Ethernet switching and IP routing to join its core operations team. This person will perform a wide variety of activities associated with physically installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting networking gear and related services. This individual should have a good understanding of Ethernet and IP networks and modern data communication protocols. Candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to adapt communication to the audience. Person will be expected to work with equipment vendors and external consultants and their technical support staff. They will need to manage network infrastructure projects as required and provide project management support for critical projects. Job Type: Full-time
Rate: $65,000-$75,000/year
Location: Office located in Sergeant Bluff, IA hybrid
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with ISP network engineering on the delivery of Carrier Ethernet, DOCSIS, Fiber, Wireless and telephony services.
- Perform data collection and analysis from a security perspective and from a business perspective.
- Configure, maintain and respond to network host monitoring applications.
- Manage assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and external entities as required to provide technical and analytical support.
- Conduct routine network hardware, software, configuration and related audits to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
- Incident response according to existing standards for security and operational incidents.
- Maintain an appropriate and professional image of the company through appearance, demeanor, and interactions with internal and external customers always.
- Comply with company policies and specifications.
- Capable of being in on-call rotation for outages and such.
You will need:
- Associate degree or equivalent certifications.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a network related field.
- Cable industry and/or Carrier Ethernet experience a plus.
- Knowledgeable in a variety of network protocols such as OSPF, SIP, and BGP
- Valid and Clean Driver’s License
- Solid understanding of routing and switching in a multi-vendor environment such as Cisco, Ciena, Adtran, Extreme, and many others.
- DWDM experience
- CMTS knowledge
- Knowledge with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IPv4, BGP, MPLS, OSPF, SNMP, SIP, VOIP, MGCP, PIM.
- Familiar with data manipulation and analysis. Able to prepare data for presentation.
- Ability to analyze, identify, prioritize and solve highly complex problems required.
- Good relations and communication skills are required to collaborate with other departments and external customers.
- Knowledge and understanding of network monitoring tools.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to learn new skills while contributing to projects with network operations.
Even better if:
Knowledgeable in a variety of network protocols such as OSPF, SIP, BGP, MPLS, DHCP, static routes, and other IP related technologies.
- DOCSIS and/or PON knowledge a plus.
- Licensing/Certifications a plus (CCNA or CCNP, MEF)
