About the Job
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our dynamic team and manage the reliability, performance, and security of our production network environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in enterprise-level networking, security technologies, and cloud infrastructure. This position requires a hands-on professional who is comfortable working with routers, switches, load balancers, VPNs, proxies, DNS, DHCP, and more, in both on-premises and cloud environments like AWS.
WORK SCHEDULE: 45 hours/week, weekdays
WORK LOCATION: Silver Spring, MD - 10903 New Hampshire Avenue
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Network Management & Monitoring:
- Administer, monitor, and maintain routers, switches, load balancers, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, NTP, and IPAM services.
- Use network management tools to configure, monitor, and maintain system baselines.
- Plan and execute network and security changes, ensuring performance and security are preserved.
- Perform proactive monitoring using SNMP, NetFlow, and other protocols.
Hardware & Cabling Management:
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network devices, storage systems, and server hardware.
- Manage hardware upgrades and repairs to ensure continued network performance.
- Install, terminate, reroute, and test copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Maintain communication closets and equipment racks, ensuring cabling and elevation drawings are up to date.
- Define cable expansion paths and ensure compliance with company standards.
Collaboration & Documentation:
- Work closely with engineering teams to understand infrastructure changes and provide input for improvements.
- Collaborate with vendors for issue resolution and platform upgrades.
- Maintain documentation for installations, configurations, and cable installations.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide escalation support when needed.
Cloud & Security Involvement:
- Provide operational support and recommendations for cloud services, particularly in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Perform network security audits, design, and testing to maintain secure networking practices.
- Certify solutions prior to deployment into production.
- On-call rotation required to address critical incidents outside business hours.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- 3-5 years of experience in enterprise-level network environments.
- Expertise in installing, cabling, and configuring network equipment.
- Proficiency with routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MP-BGP, and IS-IS.
- Experience with MPLS, Layer 2/3 VPN technologies, and LAN/WAN/MAN networks.
- Solid understanding of network security practices and policy implementation.
- Hands-on experience with routers, switches, load balancers, and proxies.
- Strong knowledge of IP technologies and core networking protocols.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and protocols like SNMP and NetFlow.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen due to security clearance requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CCNA Certification
- AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
