NOC Engineer
EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
6 month Contract to hire
COMPENSATION:
$30-$35/hour
LOCATION DETAILS: Onsite in Overland Park, KS
SHIFT: (Initially it would be M-F on day shift for 2 weeks of training (8am – 4pm). After that, it would be Tues through Sat 10:15pm – 6:15am, but we can be slightly flexible.)
Candidates must be vaccinated for COVID!
Responsibilities
Provide Service Delivery and Service Assurance for Customer Wave circuits and the DWDM systems they are assigned to.
Work with wave circuit customers and cross connect providers via phone and e-mail to identify and resolve their service related issues.
Clearly document all steps taken to identify and resolve a customer and/or network issues.
Manage a queue of wave customer created tickets, ensuring that customers are updated with their status and progress is being made towards resolving their issue.
Manage network ticket queues to ensure all network (customer and non-customer impacting) tickets are worked withing set time intervals.
Work with and coordinate effectively with all members of the CTO NOC team, other Cogent teams, as well as vendors in order to ensure swift resolution of customer and network issues
Requirements
Ability to work professionally with customers, vendors, and internal groups under all circumstances.
Manage customer expectations and escalation and de-escalate the situation as necessary.
Would prefer if the candidate has DWDM experience (Dense wavelength-division multiplexing is an optical fiber multiplexing technology that increases the bandwidth of fiber networks.)
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Ciena 6500/RLS DWDM equipment experience.
Cisco equipment experience and certifications.
Strong technical knowledge in fiber optic networks. Also preferred technical knowledge in the area of networking (TCP/IP), IP protocols (BGP, IGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS...), IP addressing, DNS's and IP-VPN's is desired.
Strong problem solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service to Customers.
Must excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where critical thinking and strong problem solving skills are required for success.
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
Reliable employment history with strong attendance and punctuality records.
Position is for the overnight shift including one weekend night.(Flexibility a MUST).

Pay Details: $30.00 to $40.00 per hour
