Job Title: Non-Profit Staff Accountant

SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Controller, the Senior Accountant’s responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger and preparing month-end and year-end close procedures. A successful Staff Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to analyze financial reports. Assist the Controller in ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of the organization’s accounting tasks.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend and actively participate in all training as assigned.
Prepares reconciliations of all organization bank accounts and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
Post and reconcile revenue from Sale systems to Accounting System and ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP.
Post and reconcile government funds and grants in the Accounting System and responsible for government/foundation grant AR management.
Post and reconcile payroll from payroll system to Accounting System.
Maintain fixed asset tracking and post depreciation on a monthly basis.
Communicate with System administrators to ensure that software systems provide accurate information and adequate internal controls.
Supports the monthly close process, including posting recurring and adjustment journal entries and allocations.
Support year-end close of financial on accrual basis and in accordance with GAAP.
Prepare and maintain temporary restricted funds.
Prepare financial reports required by management, the Board and outside government and foundation agencies.
Serve as resource person to branch management and programs staff in all matters relating to accounting.
Assist in internal and external annual independent audits and preparation of form 990 tax return by outside accounting firm.
Performs annual C-Trac (required by the organization) preparation based on form 990 tax return.
Review and recommend accounting process and procedures and suggest ways to improve efficiency when applicable.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community.
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in accounting, or equivalent. CPA certification and/or a Master's degree in accounting strongly preferred.
3+ Years of experience or more in a lead accounting role. Understanding of GAAP required.
Experience in a nonprofit environment is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of financial reporting, accounting systems, internal and external auditing.
Knowledge of and expertise with computerized sales systems, accounting systems and payroll systems.
Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
High quality verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day accounting issues.
Detail oriented, highly organized with strong emphasis on self-motivation and problem solving with minimal supervision.
Experience in SGA is preferred.
