About the Job
- Run advanced laser development programs
- Provide updates to NPI processes, checklists and templates, and implement across the business, working with the Director of Engineering and the management teams across the business.
- Collaborate with our customers to ensure alignment of requirements and actions, also work closely with product managers and service to support the resolution of product performance issues at customer sites.
- Collaborate with our purchasing, planning, marketing, Engineering, service, quality and reliability, and executive teams to ensure that our entire organization is positioned to support the NPI program(s) being executed
- Engage with our R&D and Executive teams to align our activities with the larger product and technology roadmaps
- Synthesize product and technology requirements from marketing and customer inputs through design trades, analysis, and laboratory verification
- Manage the design trades between various technical and non-technical requirements to provide to the NPI program(s).
- Collaborate closely with our team of optical, electronic, software, reliability, applications, marketing and research teams to breathe life into emerging advanced technologies and products.
- Guide development of verification and test plans tied to product requirements, risks, and theory of operations for specific NPI program(s).
- Guide NPI teams in performing product testing to verify the functionality and specifications of Coherent's products under development, and contribute to technical work in the lab.
- Help drive the development of the required advanced laser technologies.
- This role is expected to also lead at least one active program.
Education & Experience
Desired Qualifications:
Ph.D. in systems engineering, physics, applied physics, optics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, materials engineering, or related discipline. Formal Technical Management training is a plus.
- Experience with industrial lasers, either in developing such lasers, or as an integrator or user of industrial lasers
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, issues and tasks in a dynamic, concurrent, cross-functional environment
- Experience in leading large, technical component or systems-level projects
- Personal time management, project management, and organizational skills
- Ability to create and clearly articulate work plans, schedules, and resource requirements
- Lifelong learner with strong problem-solving skills, thrives in dynamic business environments
- Experience developing automated laser processes, advanced lasers, semiconductor metrology, or process equipment is a plus
- Experience in developing tools for the semiconductor wafer manufacturing industry is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- Direct experience in engineering program management.
- At least 3-5 years' experience working in laser systems engineering or equivalent, managing product development or R&D programs.

- Office environment and work in a laboratory are expected
Physical Requirements
- Work in a laser laboratory with potential occasional lifting of heavy equipment or parts.
