About the Job
EssentialDuties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
- While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner; will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
- Responsible for the application of scientific and engineering principles to operational and safety related activities.
- Leads conduct performance- and compliance-based assessments and surveillances to verify regulatory compliance.
- Makes recommendations for streamlining processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Leads CH-TRUSafety Basis development, maintenance, and operational activities.
- Responsible for performance of hazard identification, facility hazard categorization, accident analysis; selection of controls, and development of associated safety basis documents.
- Provides area support on un-reviewed safety question determinations, technical safety requirements, safety assessment documents, and facility safety plans and analysis.
- Provides direction for self-assessment and external management assessment for Safety Basis quality improvement of processes.
- Maintains authority for Area Safety Basis technical/quality issues requiring interpretations, analysis, and conflict resolution.
- Supports programmatic audits, assessments and metrics for Nuclear Safety.
- Responsible for performing USQs in accordance with programmatic procedures, and assessments of the process.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and proficiency in Department of Energy and industry standards on safety basis
- Experience performing risk and hazard analyses for a nuclear/non-nuclear facility
- Experience working in Department of Energy facilities.
- Expert knowledge and ability to develop and apply highly advanced principles, concepts and techniques in general engineering
- Skill and ability to perform critical strategic tasks and to interpret broad strategic requirements and develop and execute plans to satisfy them
- Ability to have major impact on organizational success and productivity, with extensive latitude for independent judgment
- Ability to communicate effectively at the highest levels
- Ability to develop and lead large sized projects, including defining scope, objectives and methods
- Ability to train and mentor more junior staff
- Can be viewed as an expert within a specialty and as highly competent within the broad discipline, both internally and externally
- Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelors' degree in appropriate discipline; however, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
The career level of the position will be determined by the years of relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities; after a candidate has been chosen.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements (Light Work):
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
