Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Nuclear Safety Engineer to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will work within the Nuclear Safety organization with duties to include: document/procedure preparation and reviews, perform Unreviewed Safety Question Determinations and Screenings, Project Safety Design Evaluations (DOE-STD-1189) and Potential Inadequate in the Safety Analysis (PISA) documents. Perform High Material at Risk (MAR) evaluations, and necessary document preparations to support the development or changes to the WIPP Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) documents when necessary. Requires interaction and coordination with various site organizations, e.g., Engineering, Work Control, Operations, QA, Maintenance, Packaging and Transportation, and Regulatory Environmental Services. Expectation includes: Addressing compliance issues from internal and external sources, overviewing internal and external reviews of nuclear safety programs; following corrective actions through completion or resolution, and assuring auditable documentation in maintained.

Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science or Engineering with five (5) years of professional experience* is required.
- Professional experience must include two (2) years of job-related experience (e.g., interpreting, creating, evaluating and revising technical documents; addressing compliance-related issues, or implementing critical safety requirements).
- Three (3) years of WIPP site experience is required.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Broad, experience-based knowledge of WIPP operations and engineering principles, methods and associated regulatory requirements is desired.
- Knowledge of company practices and policies; use and/or understanding and knowledge of the DSA/TSR is preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience at a DOE Hazard Category I or II Facility is preferred.
- Oral communication skills preferred.

Minimum salary $87,312 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
