System One is seeking a skilled Safety Methods and Analysis Engineer to support a 12-month contract working onsite in Bellevue, WA for the Natrium Demonstration reactor project.
In this role, you will be responsible for conducting Licensing Basis Events (LBE) analyses and may also provide subject matter expertise to other projects within the Sodium Fast Reactor (SFR) Program.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Develop methods and perform transient analyses to meet safety analysis requirements for the Natrium Demonstration reactor, focusing on Anticipated Operational Occurrences (AOO), Design Basis Events (DBE), Design Basis Accidents (DBA), and Beyond Design Basis Events (BDBE).
+ Collaborate with safety methods engineers to establish evaluation models, computational methods, and supporting documentation.
+ Work alongside a multidisciplinary team to define and maintain safety, performance, and quality requirements for Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs).
+ Document model development and analyses, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
+ Conduct engineering reviews of analyses and other design documentation.
+ Assist in developing computational models for system design and operational transients, including Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA).
+ Evaluate models against applicable tests and perform benchmark calculations as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
+ M.S. or PhD in nuclear engineering or related field, with at least 5 years of experience in the nuclear industry.
+ Strong understanding of nuclear systems fundamentals, including thermal-hydraulics, neutronics, dynamics, and reactor transient behavior.
+ Expertise in control systems modeling for reactor systems analysis.
+ Familiarity with AOO, DBE, DBA, and BDBE analysis is required.
+ Experience with system transient analysis tools such as RELAP5, SAS4A/SASSYS-1, GOTHIC, or TRACE.
+ Experience with radionuclide transport analysis tools like MELCOR, RADTRAD, or SRT.
+ Experience submitting LBE analyses to the NRC is highly desirable.
+ Familiarity with the Licensing Modernization Project process (NEI-18-04) and risk-informed performance-based technology for Non-Light Water Reactors is a plus.
+ Experience with SFR safety analysis is a strong advantage, though experience with other reactor designs will be considered.
+ Strong analytical, modeling, and reporting skills.
+ Familiarity with NQA-1 requirements related to analysis and software management, with experience working under quality assurance programs.
+ Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering problems.
+ Programming skills are a plus.
+ High degree of integrity, open communication, and commitment to fostering teamwork.
