Position Overview:
Aptive Resources is seeking dedicated Nurse Aides to provide services to the C.W. Bill Young Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. As a Nurse Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting Veterans with personal care and daily living activities, ensuring their comfort and safety. This position requires compassion, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the dignity and privacy of each patient. You will work closely with health care professionals to assist Veterans who need help with tasks they cannot perform independently due to medical conditions or treatment requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Escort and assist patients with toileting, grooming, and other personal care tasks.
- Ensure patient safety during transfers and movement, including helping patients sit, stand, and reposition.
- Maintain cleanliness of restrooms and assist in securing facilities for patient privacy.
- Safely remove and reposition clothing and incontinence pads for patient comfort.
- Use appropriate techniques to assist patients with mobility, ensuring stability and preventing falls.
- Provide hygiene assistance, including cleaning and using personal hygiene products as requested by the patient.
- Offer support with dressing, including assisting with outerwear like jackets and sweaters.
- Help patients with handwashing, hair brushing, and maintaining personal appearance.
- Assist patients during meals, including setting up food, providing support while eating, and cleaning up afterward.
- Escort patients to special events, celebrations, and medical appointments as necessary.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the work area to ensure smooth operations for the health care team.
- Handle medical records and patient documentation in compliance with HIPAA and VA policies, including scanning and filing sensitive information.
- Assist in setting up group activities or individual sessions by preparing rooms and materials.
- Act as an extension of the Health Professional Trainee (HPT), following their guidance when providing support to patients.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and maintain awareness of patient care plans and safety needs.
- Operate IT equipment and manage personal items, such as retrieving mail or personal belongings for patients as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Specialized experience in non-professional nursing care within medical, nursing, or patient care facilities such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, or home health settings.
- Familiarity with personal care procedures, including assisting with pre- and post-operative care, and supporting diagnostic and technical treatment procedures.
- Ability to care for patients with mental health needs, observe and report changes in patient behavior, and provide reassurance.
- Experience assisting in operating room activities, maintaining sterile conditions, and supporting surgical teams.
- Completion of a 2-year degree program in practical nursing or related field (such as psychology or psychiatric care) from an accredited institution.
Additional Requirements:
- Must comply with all applicable records management laws, HIPAA regulations, and VA privacy policies.
- Will be responsible for safeguarding patient information and ensuring that documentation is handled securely.
- Participation in mandatory records management and privacy training as required by the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
