The Nurse Director Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is a clinically involved and clinically focused leader, responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical care delivery at the ASC, in collaboration with the ASC Medical Director. The Nurse Director ASC leads a team of nursing and clinical support staff with positivity, presence, and professionalism to support a workplace culture of excellence in care and service, mutual accountability, professionalism, and engagement. The Nurse Director ASC plans, oversees implementation, evaluates and modifies the clinical care activities for the Ambulatory Surgery Center to assure excellence in delivery of care and service.

Responsibilities:Manages and directs the day-to-day nursing and clinical support staff operations of the ASC to most effectively and efficiently care for patients having surgical procedures. Ultimately, is responsible for assuring the delivery of excellent, safe, patient-centered and service-oriented care to patients and their families and service excellence to all internal and external customers at the ASC.
1. Oversees the delivery of patient care by all nursing and clinical support staff within the ASC. Assures that performance standards for all staff are met.
2. Focuses on monitoring and continually improving day to day care activities, processes and department culture to assure excellence in quality, safety, efficiency, effectiveness and service. Is physically present and participating in patient care activities on a routine and frequent basis.
3. Ensures pre-operative, surgical, and post-operative services are in accordance with written policies and in compliance with various regulatory and accrediting agencies. Ensures adherence to Surgery Center policies, procedures, and infection control and safety programs.
4. Actively leads most business and clinical/operational initiatives. Maintains current knowledge and is actively involved or leading all operational aspects of running an ambulatory surgery center.
5. Assures the provision of a safe, clean, presentable surgical environment to patients/customers.
6. Provides/assures appropriate response and timely resolution of concerns from internal and external customers.
7. Inculcates a culture of professionalism, service, care, safety, quality and joy amongst all members of the team. Holds team members accountable to these values.
8. Leads team building activities. Demonstrably supportive of staff to create a fully engaged, empowered, and joyful team.
9. Delegates effectively to engage and empower staff, but maintains knowledge and oversight of all activities.
10. Recruits, trains, evaluates, develops, and as necessary, disciplines and/or terminates subordinate staff. Establishes trusting relationships with staff and is a ‘staff champion’.
11. Promotes teamwork by building a team environment and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
12. Participates with the Perioperative leadership team in strategic and operational planning.
13. Develops annual operating budgets and manages resources in the department to ensure a cost-effective operation. Monitors, evaluates and justifies monthly budget expenditures and revenue for defined areas of responsibility.
14. Develops departmental policies and procedures and participates in the review of other Nationwide Children’s Hospital policies and procedures as appropriate.
15. Coordinates staff representation on departmental, hospital and community task forces, committees, quality teams and advisory groups. Serves as a representative to such groups when appropriate.
16. Supports clinical research and evidence based practice. Instills a culture of professional development.
17. Maintains currency in knowledge of evidence based care and standards related to perioperative nursing and leadership.
Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
2. Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing required.
3. Master’s degree in healthcare or business related field required.
4. Board certification in relevant field, desirable (e.g., CNOR, NE-BC, NEA-BC, CPAN, CAPA)
5. Previous management experience, required.
6. Ambulatory surgery center experience in leadership position, desirable.
7. Clinical experience in the Operating Room, highly desirable. Clinical experience in PACU/peri-anesthesia, desirable.
8. Strong leadership and critical decision-making skills, required.
9. Skill in developing and promoting multidisciplinary teamwork and collaboration; ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence, servant leadership, and positivity, required.
10. High level of integrity, initiative, self-direction and accountability, required.
11. Exceptional customer service, communication, and interpersonal relationship skills, required.
12. Strong organization, project planning and analytical skills required to assess, develop and implement systems, policies and procedures.
13. Supervisory skills required to plan, assign and evaluate the work of subordinate staff.
