Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree: Master's degree in nursing
- Education: Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
- Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: In addition to BLS, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association or a Red Cross-approved training program
- Certification: Certified in the specialty required by the TO as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate (for example, National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, American Nurses Association, National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Specialties)
- Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions. Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease processes, and procedures. Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patients condition including disease progress, acknowledgment of teaching, and follow-up care. Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and automated medical records
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse and Nurse practitioner
- Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services under privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated)
- Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures, and participate in in-service training to staff members
- Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician
- Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling
- Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization
- Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters
- Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety
Additional Duties:
- Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated
- Manages animal bites, bloodborne pathogen exposures, hospital employee health, and sexually transmitted disease prevention and treatment programs IAW Centers for Disease Control, DoD, and Air Force guidelines and regulations
- Order diagnostic tests as applicable
- Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
- Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling
- Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice under all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries
- Assesses patients
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues
- Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity under requirements
- Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in an emergency. Situations
- Completes orientation and competency verification programs under (IAW) unit guidelines
- Participates in the orientation of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate
- Serves and participates in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups, and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services
- Ensures a safe work environment, employee-safe work habits, and patient safety. IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives
- Perform deployment health assessment services that comply with the Department of Defense and Air Force deployment health policy and guidance, to include required standards of care and clinical practice guidelines
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and becoming proficient in the use of the following computer systems: Composite Health Care Systems (CHCS) – Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS), and Preventive Health Assessment and Individual Medical Readiness (PIMR)
- Possible to telework at the Flt/CC’s discretion
