About the Job
San Mateo Medical Center, part of San Mateo County Health, is seeking one full-time and two extra-help Nurse Practitioners for our Forensic Medical Unit, the Keller Center, beginning immediately. The focus of these provider’s responsibilities will be to perform forensic medical exams for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, elder abuse and child abuse. The Nurse Practitioners will participate in management of the Keller Center under the supervision of the Medical Director and Clinical Coordinator. Testifying in court will be part of the job responsibilities.
The Keller Center for Family Violence Intervention is a unique outpatient medical unit affiliated with San Mateo Medical Center Emergency Department. We perform forensic medical exams on victims of assault and abuse and work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office, Child Protective Services, Aging and Adult Services, and several community agencies. We also provide education and serve as a resource for other community hospitals and clinics.
The ideal candidates will possess a California license as a Family Nurse Practitioner and national accreditation, Nurse Practitioner Furnishing license, and Pediatric primary care experience. It is not required, but it is preferred that the incumbents will have a Master’s degree in nursing, forensic examination training and experience, Trauma Informed Care training and experience, program management experience and experience in community outreach and education. For candidates with no forensic training, a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) course should be completed within 30 days of hire.

NOTE: Extra-help are at-will assignments, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.
