Schedule
- Full time 11am-7pm
Promoting and maintaining continuity of care for the residents. Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating, all care during assigned shifts. Supervising, interpreting performance, counseling, and directing CNAs. Acts as a role model and effective team member for stimulating growth and harmony between co-workers and peers. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a diploma or degree.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia.
- CPR/AED certification.
- 2 years of nursing experience.
Job Duties
- Responsible for the total nursing care of assigned residents.
- Receives report from off-going shift and gives report to oncoming shift and make rounds.
- Receives physician orders and carries out orders according to established policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable of residents’ conditions. Reports significant change to Nursing Supervisor and/or Physician.
- If assigned to Healthcare Services, responds to emergency calls of apartment residents in the absence of Nurse Manager.
- Administers medications in accordance with regulations and established policy and procedures.
- Orders and stores medications according to the established pharmaceutical policies and procedures. Contacts Nursing Supervisor or Director of Nursing, and/or Physician if there are any questions regarding resident’s medication or treatment, implements established stop-order policy, and removes all outdated and discontinued drug medication bins and places in designated area.
- Maintains and revises, as needed, nursing care plan of residents assigned.
- Maintains current scheduled and controlled drug record in accordance with State or Federal laws.
- Administers treatment according to physicians’ orders.
- Maintains residents’ clinical records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Supervises and evaluates assigned geriatric certified nursing assistants.
- Sees that all equipment is working properly and that a safe environment is maintained in resident areas. Promptly completes maintenance request forms.
- Records required information in “Report Book” and Nurses’ Notes. Records monthly summaries on residents’ charts as assigned. Record weight and blood pressure monthly as assigned.
- Assesses resident injuries and renders first aid or makes decisions for appropriate referral to doctor and/or ER. Completes Incident Report.
- Makes shift rounds with Physicians.
- Maintains a physical, social, and psychological environment conductive to the wellbeing of the resident.
- Keeps Dining Services informed of diet changes.
- Regularly checks residents receiving IV fluids.
- Attends mandatory in-service education and completes Relias/Learning in-services assigned on the computer.
- Attends nursing team members meetings regularly.
- Keeps Nursing Supervisor and Director of Nursing informed of major problem areas and recurrent grievances.
- Bathes and feeds acutely ill residents and/or assist nursing assistants with residents’ care, as necessary.
- Administers subcutaneous fluids. RNs to administer intravenous fluids unless LPN has had specialized training.
- Make resident assignments to nursing assistants such as cleaning of baths, utility rooms, Nurses’ stations, and linen rooms.
- Encourages motivation, socialization, and rehabilitation of residents and helps create a “home” atmosphere.
- Implements established resident care policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Intermediate conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within medication and nursing assistance, typically acquired through a nursing degree.
- Intermediate verbal and written communication skills required.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of common medical processes and treatments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- May include frequent lifting (up to 50lbs).
- Extensive walking, bending, stooping, standing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks.
- Ability to work inside and outside to effectively make rounds daily throughout the facility and to respond to problems and emergencies.
- Universal staffing, holiday, inclement weather, and a flexible work schedule are required in health services to meet the needs of the job.
