JOB SUMMARY:
This position serves the hospital patient population by assisting to provide direct patient care which meets the assigned unit needs through regular rounding. The House Supervisor/Nurse Director may re-assign to other units based on changes of volumes and acuity.
JOB DUTIES:
Customer Service:
1. Demonstrates a professional and compassionate attitude towards patients, families, visitors, coworkers and other departmental representatives.
2. Demonstrates a positive, welcoming and helpful attitude towards all individuals who enter or contact the department.
3. Answers patients' call lights promptly and communicates/completes needed patient intervention.
4. Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent information to ensure patient, visitor and employee rights are protected.
5. Handles all organizational information in a manner that ensures strict confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Patient Care Duties:
1. Assists in the delivery of patient care as directed to include: transfers, ambulation, feeding, dressing, bathing, weighing, and toileting.
2. Transports or assists with the transporting of patients.
3. Promptly delivers specimens and supplies within the hospital.
4. Reports significant events and actions promptly to the RN.
5. Applies monitors and reports to the RN the effectiveness of any safety device and/or mobility alarm.
General:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with hospital safety, disaster and emergency procedures.
2. Cleans and disinfects equipment as needed and assists in keeping unit clean and organized.
3. Attends required in-services and staff meetings.
4. Understands and adheres to departmental policies and procedures.
5. Care is delivered with adherence to the policies and procedures of Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
6. Performs and demonstrates competency for all CNA responsibilities for patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Nursing Assistant certification and current listing on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
3. BLS Certification or ability to obtain within two months of hire and maintains certification.
4. 1 year experience as a nursing assistant or relevant medical education/experience within the past 5 years preferred.
5. Computer experience with demonstrated ability to retrieve electronic data and successfully completes basic computer skills test.
6. Demonstrates basic knowledge of medical terminology and successfully completes the medical terminology test.
7. Experience in an inpatient health care setting with ability to multi-task and manage multiple patient/family/nursing/physician priorities within short time frames preferred.
8. Must pass the physical testing requirements that are essential function of this position.
9. Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
10. Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
