About the Job
The Riverside County Regional Medical Center-Arlington Campus seeks Regular Fulltime and Per Diem Nursing Assistants to support the Mental Health Division. This job posting will serve to fill regular full-time and per-diem vacancies. This post will open on the first week of each month, serving as an opportunity for prospective candidates to apply for available positions. Under supervision, assists professional nursing personnel or other professional healthcare providers in providing basic patient care and treatment in a per diem employment capacity; performs nonprofessional nursing duties in the care of physically and mentally ill patients; and performs other related duties as required. The Nursing Assistant is an entry level classification and typically reports to appropriate supervisory or management level nursing staff. The most competitive candidate acquires a Nursing Assistant Certification .

Essential Duties: (may include, but are not limited to, the following)
- Provide basic bedside care to assure comfort and cleanliness of patients; monitor vital signs; bathe, shave, feed, dress patients, and assist those capable of self-care.
- Collect, test and record results of routine specimen examinations; provide patients with bedpans, remove and clean them, and record intake and output of patients.
- Assist patients in getting into and out of bed and wheelchairs; lift or assist in lifting, restraining and positioning patients.
- May assist in the physical restraining of patients in a mental health crisis.
- Transport patients to and from units.
- May clean restrooms; set up oral hygiene trays.
- Observe, intervene, and report unusual behavior of patients through Unit chain of command; may accompany and attend mental patients in therapy sessions, court appearances or daily living routines, including social and recreational activities.
- May serve as a sitter (1:1) for a patient.
- Visually monitor patients and document location every 15 mins, providing safe therapeutic environment.
- Proactively monitor to prevent patient crisis and provides crisis intervention when needed for individuals with mental health needs.
- Works with the multi-disciplinary team and other staff to provide intervention, and brief and on-going, solution-focused interventions, including psychotherapy to patients with behavioral health problems.
- Documents care in the medical record in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
- Participates in de-escalation of patients with behavioral emergency situations.
- Participates in team activities and meetings as needed.
- May provide patient transportation in the absence of Medical Transportation Technician; assist in admission and discharge of patients from unit; go on ambulance runs as necessary.
- Other patient care duties as assigned on the unit.

• May assist in the administration of such treatments as suctions, soaks, and enemas; give and emptysitzbaths; assist doctors or professional healthcare providers with IV's, pelvic exams, spinal taps, or other medical procedures.
• Assist patients in getting into and out of bed and wheelchairs; lift or assist in lifting, restraining, and positioning patients; may set up fracture equipment and assist doctors in applying casts and braces.
• Clean and sterilize instruments, dressings, supplies, and utensils, transport patients to and from units.
• Maintain renal dialysis equipment; prepare and transport bodies to morgue; may clean restrooms; set up oral hygiene trays.
• Observe and report unusual behavior of patients to supervisor; may accompany and attend mental patients in therapy sessions, court appearances, or daily living routines, including social and recreational activities.
• May provide patient transportation in the absence of Medical Transportation Technician; assist in admission and discharge of patients from unit; go on ambulance runs as necessary.
• Monitor patients using AvaSys Telesitter Solution software and monitoring equipment.
• Verbally redirect patients via a 2-way radio from engaging in at risk behaviors; summon nursing staff if a patient requires assistance, nonresponsive to verbal commands, or can no longer be viewed on the video monitor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Successful completion of the education required by the State of California to obtain the necessary valid license/certifications as indicated below.
License/Certifications (Must possess one of the following):
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Temporary Assignment Program (TAP): Current and valid Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) issued by the State of California, Paramedic license issued by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority or current and valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification approved by the State of California is required. Current CNA Certification, Paramedic license or EMT Certification must be maintained while in TAP/Per Diem employment.
Knowledge of: The principles, methods and techniques of basic patient care and safety; patient vital signs, basic medical terminology; safe patient handling techniques, including lifting, positioning and transfer methods.
Ability to:Read, write and speak the English language; learn the principles, methods and procedures of basic patient care; learn hospital and/or clinic routines and techniques; perform bedside nursing care in an understanding and sympathetic manner; follow oral and written directions; keep simple records; apply proper body mechanics in lifting and moving patients.

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
- Tier I (Classic Member - Formula 3% @ 60): Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08/24/2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions. The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent.
- Tier II (Classic Member - Formula 2% @ 60): Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08/23/2012 through 12/31/2012; 2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside. The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent.
- Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62): Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013. Effective July 1, 2023 employee contributions are 7.25% and will increase to 7.75% effective July 1, 2024.
A new member is defined as any of the following:
CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members".
Contribution rates are subject to change based on the County of Riverside annual actuarial valuation.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance)
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
