San Mateo County Health's Health IT Division is currently seeking a highly motivated, results-driven Nursing Informaticist Training Manager-Limited Term who will improve support to staff members participating in critical implementation activities. This position will be needed from now through the stabilization of the electronic health record. Stabilization would involve full implementation of the electronic health record, training of all staff and optimization of operational productivity. Stabilization is anticipated between May and November of 2025, though that date is subject to change based on progress within the implementation.
San Mateo County Health is in the process of implementing an integrated electronic health record (Epic). As Health prepares for this implementation, the organization has identified areas that are heavily dependent on additional staffing required to manage multiple resources and activities. This Manager will have oversight and responsibility for a current team of eight (8) staff members (Nursing Informaticists, Senior Business Analyst and Management Analyst/Training Coordinators).
This position will supervise the Nurse Informaticists, who are responsible for nursing informatic workflows and bridging the gap between the IT technical teams and clinical/operational teams in preparation for the implementation of our new Electronic Health Record (EHR). Nurse Informaticists support tasks throughout each phase of our project implementation including build validation, testing, readiness, training and at the elbow Go Live support, including partnering with our Super Users and training team to support the training of our approximate 4,000 end users.
Supervision will include oversight/responsibility for the training team staff whose roles are centered around organizing the training coordination, analytics, and management of the Epic EHR project team training/certification activities along with the management of these training needs of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders across San Mateo County Health. This includes assessing the administrative, analytical and workflow to support the Epic training program goals. The Training Coordinator evaluates and make recommendations for procedural improvements to establish and sustain a viable Epic EHR training program. This manager role will foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, which is vital for meeting the Epic project deliverables/milestones, setting SMCH up for success with adoption of new workflows with our implementation of our new EHR.
The Manager will promote organizational thinking and consider the impact across San Mateo County Health when supporting/developing training needs. This position will promote consistency in all aspects of training and support across San Mateo County Health (SMCH). This role will help to ensure Epic users across SMCH are prepared with the necessary Epic skills and tools to be successful.

The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience selecting, supervising, training and evaluating clinical, professional, and technical and team members.
- Three years of professional nursing experience in informatics which at least one year included responsible supervisory/manager level experience.
- Experience overseeing training programs, instructional design, educational content creation and delivery preferably with Epic.
- Strong recent, relevant experience working with stakeholders in adopting Epic or another EHR as part of a large project implementation that involved multiple EHR’s that were being replaced by a single EHR.
- A minimum of five years of recent work experience in a healthcare setting with a preference to working in government (Federal, State, County) healthcare entities.
- Solid technical understanding and background, broad expertise in nursing practice and clinical workflows, and strong organizational skills.
- Strong, recent competency in mapping real-life practices to applications.
- Demonstrated ability and is adept at persuading and training clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to adopt new workflows and tools, requiring strong knowledge of change management.
- Knowledge of adult learning and training methods.
- Broad knowledge of healthcare operations and associate technologies.
- Excellent ability to translate technical terminology for consumption by non- technical audiences.
- Good understanding and familiarity with project management, quality assurance, and information systems design, and EHR application build.
- Have awareness of current IT security standards, applicable privacy laws and regulations.
- Superior interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Self-directed with keen attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A customer-service and patient-centric focus.
- Certifications in Epic, ANCC or Nursing Informatics, preferred.
- Master's Degree in Nursing or related field (MHA, MBA, etc.), preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in implementing an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
