Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Nursing Operations Specialist
Department: Psychiatry Services Administration
Shift: FT Days/Exempt
**Must possess a high level of flexibility/adaptability, with a willingness to work various shifts outside of normal business hours, including nights and/or weekends.
Primary Purpose:
Provides daily support for nursing operations to include research and development, integration of system-wide initiatives, collaboration with multiple nursing departments for the development and delivery of content for materials such as training materials, policies and procedures, etc., and identification of gaps in nursing performance to ensure the standardization and Best Practices for Parklands nursing services.

Job Summary:
- Reviews and analyzes nursing literature and recommends nursing best practice to unit/department leadership for practice optimization.
- Reviews and updates nursing policy and procedure based on current literature and professional standards within the established framework.
- Retrieves, analyzes, collates and trends data from multiple sources for ongoing monitoring at the unit/department level. Develops reports, graphs, and presentations to distribute the data.
- Collaborates with Clinical Education and Nursing Leadership in identification of education needs, implementation of new initiatives and development/delivery of education content as needed for the improvement of nursing operation.
- Collaborates with Performance Improvement, and other departments as necessary, to ensure unit/department integration with system-wide initiatives.
- Collaborates with Information Technology to identify and optimize EPIC nursing documentation.
- Collaborates with other support departments to identify gaps in nursing performance and development of education and/or monitoring plans for correction/improvement of nursing practice.
- Performs project planning and roll out of division and house-wide initiatives as participant & lead
- Serves as liaison between many areas and nursing departments with working knowledge of Safety & Risk, Quality Infection Control, Nursing Informatics/IT, Clinical Engineering, HIM
- Collaborates and assists with evidenced-based practice research as directed
- Serves as a subject matter expert during accreditation and credentialing surveys (ie Joint Commission, CMS, Stroke Certification).
- Responsible for documenting and tracking improvements in cross-functional team settings in order to enhance productivity, quality and customer satisfaction
- Responsible for support of assigned areas and participation in departmental Performance improvement committees to track and trend quality and performance improvement projects, goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with assigned leaders to establish projects, metrics, dashboards, while collecting, organizing and monitoring departmental quality, operation and service line performance data
- Promotes cross-departmental communication, collaboration, and performance improvement as a means to improve patient care and outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education -
- BSN or MSN Degree from an accredited Professional School of Nursing; -OR-
- ASN Degree from an accredited Professional School of Nursing and obtain BSN Degree within 3 years from hire date.
Experience -
- A minimum of five (5) years of recent, progressively responsible experience in project management as a registered nurse (RN) within Psychiatry Services in a hospital setting. This experience may combined work in an Emergency Department or Trauma Department (LVN/LPN experience will not substitute this requirement).
- Strong proficiency in nursing informatics or information technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and EPIC documentation.
- Strong proficiency in database management skills, with ability to ability to mine, analyze, collate and trend data.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, including interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Familiar with hospital operations and initiatives, including budgeting, charges, supplies, and equipment. Collaborates with department leaders to ensure operations are conducted in a fiscally responsible manner.
Certification/Registration/Licensure-
- Current/Valid RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing or valid Compact RN license in good standing without any present and/or past stipulations.
- Current/Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification card at time of offer from one of the following: American Heart Association American Red Cross Military Training Network.
