Summary: The Nutrition Services Clerk responsibilities, under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, are to assist in the preparation and serving of nutritious meals following District procedures and standards. The incumbent operates the Point of Sales terminal, collecting cash for meals and snack items, and distributing remaining cash back to buyer. Clerk completes daily paperwork, accurately identifies reimbursable meals, inputs meal numbers and deposit information.
Essential Functions:
- Assists in food preparation to include, but not limited to, breakfast, lunch, snack and salad bar. Follows recipes, measures and records required amounts of food. Determines the appropriate equipment and appliances to use.
- Assists in packing Breakfast in the Classroom bags, where necessary, and placing bags on appropriate carts. Delivers carts to classrooms and helps in the pickup and disassembly of breakfast.
- Operates Point of Sale (POS) terminal, including entering monies received into appropriate accounts, collects cash for sales of meals and snacks and completes required daily reports.
- Identifies meal components and determines if the child has a USDA reimbursable meal.
- Prepares daily bank deposit slips, including verifying deposit slips with cash to be deposited, ensuring deposits are safely stored, and ensuring deposits are ready for scheduled pick up.
- In non Community Eligibility Program years, clerk collects and reviews family meal applications based on the guidelines determined by the USDA.
- Performs cleanup to include, but not limited to, dishwashing, cleaning tables and preparation areas, cleaning equipment and appliances, taking apart and reassembling equipment, and disposing of unsalvageable food and removing garbage from the kitchen.
- Practices safe food handling according to HACCP, Maricopa County Health Department and WESD Nutrition Services Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assists food service managers in various tasks such as taking inventory, placing food and non-food item orders, and checking in and storing orders.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.
- High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
- Food Handler Certificate
Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.
- One year of cashier experience;
- Valid Cardiopulmary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate within thirty days of hire;
- Proficiency in English and Spanish language.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
