Job Summary
Performing under the daily direction of the Manager, Occupational Health/Infection Control and indirectly to the Director, HR Service Delivery this position functions as an Occupational Health and Designated Employer Representative (DER) Specialist. This position serves in a back-up role to the DER and supports administrative DER functions. This position is responsible for a variety of administrative and coordinating functions within the Occupational Health Department. The Occ Health and DER Specialist is responsible for supporting the DER with the administration and compliance of our company's drug and alcohol testing program in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, and company policies. Deals with a diverse group of internal and external callers as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload and competing timelines.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide support to the DER in managing the Drug and Alcohol Program.
- Process Department of Transportation record requests for employee drug and alcohol tests. Assists with Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Audits; collection of test results, control custody forms, and alcohol test forms.
- Provides administrative support for the company's drug and alcohol testing program, including pre-employment, post-accident, random, and reasonable suspicion testing to ensure compliance.
- Assist the DER with scheduling random drug and alcohol tests, documentation of drug and alcohol test, and reporting of positive drug or alcohol tests to the FAA.
- Generate drug and alcohol test requisitions, monitor results, maintain accurate records and follow-up actions.
- Coordinate with testing facilities, medical review officers (MROs), and other relevant parties to ensure smooth operations of the collection of drug and alcohol tests.
- Coordinates occupational health requirements and ensures proper tracking and record keeping for all new hires.
- Ensures all credentials (audiograms, fit tests, vaccines) are entered into the employee record.
- Generates monthly reports for Employee Weight and Missing Credential Reports.
- Create new employee folders and archive terminated employee folders
- Serve as a backup during Occupational Coordinator absence.
- Serve as back up for the Occupational Health Nurse
- This position is required to be on-call on a rotating schedule.

The successful candidate will have:
- Associate degree required.
- Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
- Current and unrestricted state certification/license as an Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
- Experience acting as a Designated Employer Representative (DER) for safety-sensitive workforce preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in HR, compliance, safety, or a similar role with a focus on drug and alcohol testing programs preferred.
- Excellent communication skills to include oral comprehension, oral expression, written comprehension, and written expression.
- Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the transportation or healthcare industries preferred.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and federal/state laws related to drug and alcohol testing preferred.
- This position exercises discretion, confidentiality, and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to address issues promptly and effectively.
- Ability to work in a highly organized and detailed-oriented fashion while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to accurately work with MS, Excel and other specific databases with above average typing speed and accuracy.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- This position is designated Safety Sensitive for purposes of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.
