Job Summary:
The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for managing primary and secondary work-related and personal disability cases for a multi-shift manufacturing plant.&
This role serves as a liaison for clients, addressing job-related accommodations, job placement, and fitness for duty.
Additionally, the nurse will coordinate and ensure quality assurance of state and federal mandated programs related to health surveillance and risk reduction.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate care for occupational injury and illness cases, including health needs assessment, treatment plan development, and medical service facilitation.
Collaborate with management regarding work-related accommodations, restrictions, and rehabilitation needs for employees.
Maintain both paper and electronic medical records for current and separated employees.
Serve as a subject matter expert for leave of absence and workers’ compensation programs.
Evaluate weekly sick disability claims and oversee the disability program in collaboration with payroll.
Conduct periodic workplace assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend job accommodations or modifications.
Assist in developing and implementing risk reduction strategies.
Evaluate employee fitness for duty based on the physical requirements of their positions.
Maintain infection control procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
Develop and administer health promotion and wellness programs.
Provide reproductive hazard reduction services and educational programs.
Develop site-specific policies and procedures and ensure compliance with company and federal requirements.
Deliver presentations and in-service training for new hires and other staff as needed.
Required Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age.
Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing.
Strong knowledge of FMLA, Texas Workers’ Compensation guidelines, HIPAA, and Privacy Act regulations.
Proficient in case management, medical record keeping, and Occupational Health procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and certification in Occupational Health Nursing.
Experience in managing occupational health laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of health risk reduction and health surveillance programs.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call hours.
Fast-paced clinic/office environment with frequent interruptions.
Must be able to enter manufacturing and cleanroom areas.
Dexterity required for first aid and lab work, with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious agents.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
