Job Summary: · The Occupational Therapist provides evaluation and treatment (COTA provides treatment only) to children identified by the school district as a child/student with a disability as outlined in Part 200 Regulations/IDEA · The Therapist utilizes principles of growth and development in establishing guidelines for the implementation of the child’s IEP to provide treatment as able · The Occupational Therapist or COTA provides services in conformance with all regulatory bodies governing this population, school policy and procedure and in compliance with the NYS Occupational Therapy Practice Act |
Qualifications: · OT- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an institution accredited by the AOTA · OT-New York License/Registration · COTA-Associate Degree or higher as an OT Assistant · COTA- NYSED Certification |
Job Responsibilities: · Evaluate children with known or suspected disabilities as pertinent to case assigned · Participate in planning/meeting with the school district, parents and other members of the CPSE · Provide treatment in accordance with the child’s IEP · Provide all required documentation with required time frames including daily notes, therapy sign in sheets, quarterly progress notes, IEP pages and updates and annual reviews · Provide instruction to families, team members and other support staff consistent with accepted practice standards · Instruct families in the use of prosthetic, hand splint, adaptive equipment or other assistive devices · Submit all required attendance documentation to administration within required time frames · Maintain effective contact with other team members via weekly scheduled team meetings · Include family in panning and treatment of the child · Obtain NPI # · Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming and effective work ethic · Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines · Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation · Notify school of absences due to illness, emergency leave, normal vacation periods, or professional meetings that will affect agreed upon services in the school · Treat all children with dignity and respect · Attend 3-5 evening observations/conference events with parents · Must be able to lift 40 pounds · COTA-under the supervision of the Lead Occupational Therapist, performs all of the above except evaluations · Will ensure that theyt will sanitize materials/equipment/toys in his/her office periodically and between students · Will ensure that they will follow all the policies and procedures of Positive Beginnings, including the current Reopening Plan as well as the Federal, NYSED, NYC DOHMH guidelines/rules and regulations. |
