About the Job
The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is looking for Per-Diem Occupational Therapists to work at our Riverside University Health System - Medical Center in Moreno Valley. New graduates are welcome to apply. The position will work Monday through Friday starting between 7:30 and 8:00am, with possible rotating weekends and holidays.
Under general supervision, and according to prescription Occupational Therapists plan and administer occupational therapy treatments, using graded therapeutic activities for the purpose of aiding the patient's physical rehabilitation; test and evaluate patient's ability to function outside the treatment setting; and perform other work as required.
Incumbents of the Occupational Therapist I/II class are expected to work independently and to administer varied occupational therapy treatments to physically handicapped patients with a minimum of supervision. Assignments require a greater understanding of departmental policies and more extensive technical knowledge than those normally given an Occupational Therapist I. Per Diem personnel are distinguished from regular employees in that they receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits. Per Diem work assignments are flexibly scheduled or on an as-needed basis.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Plans and administers therapy treatments directed toward increasing the range of joint motions, increasing muscle strength, and assisting coordination of movements.
• Reviews patient's history and interviews patient to determine physical capacity.
• Administers performance tests to determine patient's ability to function outside of the treatment environment; administers occupational therapy treatments in accordance with general instructions from the physician in charge of each case.
• In coordination with the work of physical therapists, teaches self-care and daily living activities with particular emphasis on muscle reeducation involving reach, grasp, release, opposition, coordination, relaxation and balance.
• Adapts games, arts and crafts, housekeeping tasks, and other activities as therapeutic exercises; cooperates with physical therapists in securing carry-over in the treatment and training of physically handicapped patients.
• Plans and supervises group activities; develops, designs, and constructs, or directs the construction of, special equipment; gives instructions to patients and relatives on the construction of special equipment and suitable activities for the continuation of treatments at home.
• Evaluates effectiveness of treatment; suggests treatment changes and discusses treatment with physician; schedules patient treatments; coordinates and trains volunteer aides and occupational therapy students.
• Attends meetings and conferences with nursing and medical staff; prepares reports and maintains records; orders necessary supplies and equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Occupational Therapist I
Experience: None
Occupational Therapist II
Experience: One year of supervised experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist.
Both Occupational Therapist I/II
Education:Bachelor or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (AOTE) certified school.
License/Certification: Possession of a current, valid license as an Occupational Therapist through the California Board of Occupational Therapy.
Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
Knowledge of: Therapeutic techniques, activities, and equipment used in occupational therapy work; the theory physical rehabilitation underlying the practices of occupational therapy; the Skeletal Anatomy, Kinesiology, Neurology and the objectives of occupational therapy treatment; the physical problems of therapy patients and their families.
Ability to: Plan, organize, and conduct an occupational therapy program; apply occupational therapy techniques in observing, testing, and evaluating patients; deal effectively with physically handicapped persons and their families; prepare reports and keep records of case histories.

Condition of Employment
In accordance with the California Department of Public Health Order dated August 5, 2021, and amended December 22, 2021, health care facility workers who work in indoor settings where care is provided to patients or where patients have access for any purpose must be vaccinated against COVID-19 as follows: first dose of a one-dose regimen or second dose of a two-dose regimen, by September 30, 2021. Effective March 1, 2022, all healthcare facility workers must have their booster, obtain the booster within 15 days of becoming eligible for one, or a declination form on file for the booster. Consideration may be given to candidates who are in the process of completing their vaccination regimen.
The Order allows for workers to be exempt from the vaccination requirements by providing the facility with a declination form signed by the individual stating either of the following: (1) the worker is declining vaccination based on Religious Beliefs; or (2) the worker is excused from receiving any COVID-19 vaccine due to Qualifying Medical Reasons. Workers who are exempted from the vaccination requirements must observe all other infection control requirements required by their work site.
A requirement of employment is to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or a completed COVID-19 Vaccination Declination form (filled out by the candidate and their medical provider as appropriate), during the pre-employment process. Failure to submit the required documentation may render a candidate ineligible to move forward in the process.
Per Diem employees participate in the 401(a) Temporary and Part-Time Employees' Retirement Plan and are required to contribute 3.75% of salary to the pension plan. The County contributes a matching amount.
