Occupational Therapist-Lymphedema-Methodist - UnityPoint Health

Provides lymphedema treatment for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other healthcare team members. Collaborates with physicians and other health care workers to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while maintaining standards for professional physical/occupational therapist practice in the clinical setting. • Provides and coordinates care and treatment for lymphedema patients
• Completes documentation to assure an accurate record of patients’ care.
• Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgment, and maintains responsibility for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
• Collaborates with physicians and other professionals in planning and implementing care within hospital policy and legal limitations.
• Assesses needs of patients and families and makes the necessary referrals to community agencies to provide continuity of care.
• Demonstrates professional development by keeping abreast of current lymphedema treatment practice and healthcare trends.
• Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.
• Demonstrates the ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.
• Consistently delivers high quality care demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of lymphedema in accordance with established policies and procedures and standards of care.
• Demonstrates knowledge of reimbursement guidelines: maintains responsibility for accurate and timely coding and filing of insurance claims.
• Develops and utilizes both professional and public written educational materials.
• Provides ongoing promotion of lymphedema program.

Education: Graduated from an accredited program in respective field.

Experience: Knowledge of reimbursement issues and procedures. Two years of therapy experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Current Iowa license to practice as a occupational therapist. Certification in CDT from approved program. LANA certified as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT-LANA) preferred. On yearly basis will obtain 10 direct CEUs or contact hours in lymphedema specialty area.
