- Position Summary
- Under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager, this position is responsible for mixing chemotherapeutic and/or other infused drugs, managing inventory as it relates to both inpatient and outpatient oncology infusion products, perform all of the functions of a Pharmacy Technician III when required as well as providing expertise in development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of all medication related technology. A Pharmacy Oncology Infusion Technician must also demonstrate leadership skills and serve as a role model to Pharmacy Technician I, II, & III staff members and Pharmacy Interns. Competency in data analysis, critical thinking skills, and handling hazardous medications is required. An understanding of all federal, state, and local rules and regulations as they pertain to hazardous medications is required. In addition, the Pharmacy Oncology Infusion Technician performs assigned duties independently within the Department of Pharmacy policies and procedures, never performs duties which can only be performed by a pharmacist, and performs assignments within established time frames. Has some supervisory responsibilities. Pharmacy Oncology Infusion Technician may receive, secure, and transport hazardous medications as necessary.

- Experience
- 3-5 Years hospital pharmacy technician - Required
- Currently working at least 40 hours per week.
- License & Certification
- Professional Certification - Required
- Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the State Board of Pharmacy.Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) status required with documentation of continued education.
- Core Job Functions
- Preparation and delivery of IV admixtures and other medications as related to routine and new orders. Maintains adequate par levels of medications/supplies. Assists in maintaining IV automation systems.
- Assists Pharmacy Manager, Business Manager and other appropriate pharmacy staff in training new co-workers and assuring their continued competence and serves as a role model for technical staff. Participates in QI activities as required. Coordinates the technical staff's participation with the development of the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative.
- Facilitates team communications, deliverables and sets timelines for project deliverables as assigned. Reports regularly status updates on assignment and reviews charge capture of infusion services across multiple areas.
- Preparation of IV admixtures and maintenance of IV automation systems. Repackaging process for unit dose medications. Performs charge capture, reconciles discrepancies and issues credits.
- Responsible for coordinating the installation, training, operation and maintenance of all hardware and software associated with compounding and dispensing technology. Oversees the inventory of medication cabinets, under the supervision of Pharmacy Manager.
