Under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Registered Oncology Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care and work with our Infusion Center, Hematology Oncology Unit and Oncology Physician Practice nursing staff. This individual will have direct contact with our Hematology/Oncology Physicians, Infectious Disease Physicians, and their patients. The Oncology Pharmacist will primarily be involved in providing Clinical/Dispensing services for our Hematology/Oncology practices and patients. The Oncology Pharmacist will also provide Staff Pharmacist/ IV services as needed. The Registered Pharmacist reviews the patient’s medication orders against the patient’s medication profile in accordance with hospital and pharmacy philosophy, policies and procedures and standards. The Registered Pharmacist is committed to customer service, professional accountability and growth
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:- Graduate from an accredited school of Pharmacy with minimum of a BS in Pharmacy.
- NYS Pharmacist license and Current New York registration required.
- 2 – 3 years hospital pharmacy experience;
- Minimum three (3) of annual CE requirements must be in Chemotherapy/Oncology.
- Oncology Certification by NYSCHP or BPS or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in hematology oncology and infusion center operations preferred.
- Successful completion of Hospital and Departmental Orientation Program, according to hospital and Pharmacy policy and procedure

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.

- Must be physically able to ambulate or be stationary for extended periods of time.
- Requires manual dexterity for computer work, ability to focus and concentrate.
- Able to perform difficult manipulative arm-hand steadiness and hand-eye coordination skills. Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements
- Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day
- Sees objects closely and far away and hears normal sounds with some background noises
- Tasks that involve exposure to chemotherapeutic agents. Requires the knowledge and use of Universal Precaution techniques. May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform Pharmacy tasks. Any chemicals/substances the employee may be exposed to is noted in the MSDS manual located on the WPH Intranet or Switchboard
- Must be physically able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
- Must be able to perform word processing/computer work and use of transcription equipment for extend periods of time
- Use of coordination an dexterity to operate word processing, remove and install toners/ink, labels etc
- Must be physically able to move, remove and transport heavy objects more than 30 lbs.
- Must have the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and with distractions
- Perform repetitive functions
- Must be able to detect and communicate with internal and external customer as well as inspect deliveries for accuracy.
