MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Care, required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current State of Texas RCP license
- Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Certified in Basic Life Support
- Additional specialty certification from the NBRC, preferred
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with five (5) years of critical care experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILTIES:
- Responsible for supervising the daily operations and staff of the Respiratory Care department.
- Provides leadership in the absence of the department director or manager.
- Ensures flow of communication between staff and department leadership.
- Assists with maintaining department supplies and equipment.
- Assists with preparing the department schedule and ensures appropriate staffing.
- Prepares and distributes shift assignments.
- Monitors staff performance and assist with re-direction and education.
- Mentors/leads/trains lesser experienced practitioners.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and managing new programs/policies. Refines existing programs/policies to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Monitors and manages the clinical quality for selected services, identifies areas for improvement and implements solutions.
- Provides expert respiratory advice and recommendations to physicians and other staff for populations served.
- Performs duties in a manner to promote quality, patient care and customer service, while promoting patient safety and cost efficiency. Performs Respiratory Care quality assurance problem-solving and takes appropriate action.
- Executes new product and equipment evaluation process; participates in the evaluation of new equipment.
- Communicates effectively with professional colleagues; manages time effectively; documents appropriately in the electronic medical record and completes all required documentation accurately.
- Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
