Job Summary: The operations manager is responsible for managing plant production activities across multiple shifts and/or departments to produce products that meet established quality, customer service, safety, innovation and cost metrics consistent with schedules and policies. The Operations Manager assures all processes meet the safety, quality, productivity, cost, delivery, and engagement activities of the facility. This position will be a key stakeholder in the deployment of the TPS processes, tools and strategies across all pillars; directs process and product improvements; sets pillar goals with CI to continuously improve plant-level performance; ensures plant compliance with FDA, SQF, OSHA, and all other regulatory agencies/organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads a multiple shift production facility. Provides leadership and development of Supervisory Staff and hourly production employees. Responsible for supply and finished goods planning. Ensures efficient and effective use of labor, tools, and equipment.
- Direct Supervision of two salaried production managers
- Support continuous improvement in all production processes to improve safety, product quality, and standard costs.
- Coordinate the production requirements with scheduling to meet customer demand requirements.
- Is an active participant in Safety, providing aggressive follow-up of the Company Safety Process including Key Concepts.
- Develop and manage operations budgets to meet financial goals. Initiates cost savings measures relating to crewing, standards, processes and improvements.
- Reviews, monitors and communicates daily/weekly/and monthly reporting of key performance indicators and the corresponding implications/action items.
- Completes daily operations and long-term strategic plans and translates into measurable performance goals.
- Plans and assists in capital project planning, development and implementation.
- Active role in employee engagement, all measures.
- Back up for Plant Manager.
- Works closely with cross functional teams (i.e. Project Engineers, Contractors, Technicians, Peers, etc.) to plan, implement, lead and/or execute actions that will assist in TPS implementation.
- Coaches in personal accountability, giving and receiving feedback, root cause analysis, problem solving, decision making, trade-off analysis, interpersonal communications and external interactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- BS in business administration, engineering, operations or related field; Acceptable experience in this field; MBA/MS a plus.
- Minimum five (5) years operations leadership and engaging team members to improve business results.
- Minimum five (5) years experience in food processing, manufacturing or packaging.
- Proficient in the use of: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Team leadership skills and project management proficiency.
- Self motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work as a member of and/or lead cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage and prioritize one’s own time consistent with the needs of the business.
- Ability to perform formal root cause analysis to identify and resolve downtime/inefficient operational issues.
- Articulate both written and spoken, and possess excellent listening skills.
