We are seeking an individual with a management background who also possesses an ability to "think outside of the box" and "how might we" curiosity in addition to proven leadership and team building abilities to join our team.
Working closely with the Director, the Operations Manager is responsible for cultivating a culture of performance based accountability, leadership and team building within the mosquito operations team while partnering closely with sales, customer care and other departments to help accomplish the vision of the mosquito operations team and prepare for organizational and departmental growth. He/she should also have a keen eye for safety as well as regulatory compliance and process improvements to ensure exceptional customer experiences.
This position has direct oversight of Clarke's team of Field Supervisors who work 50/50 in the office and field, as well as our team of mechanics/fleet operations. Indirect supervision includes over 100 seasonal technicians during the months of April - October.
Some travel is to be expected to other locations upon request as part of their training, when needed for emergency response or to support business growth and collaboration.
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Create a strong accountability, performance-based culture
- Meet and exceed targets as they relate to profitability, quality, productivity, customer service and safety.
- Participate in the budgeting process to include direct/indirect expense budgets and capital budgets as well as monitoring and controlling variances against the set budgets.
- Focus on business performance improvements that yield increased capacities for service operations, reduction in accidents and injuries, elimination of waste, improving customer satisfaction, and increased market share.
- Lead formal productivity initiatives that drive year over year cost improvement.
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to maximize service to customers, flexibility of capacity, and reduction of consolidated costs.
- Provide direction, development and leadership to supervisors and coworkers.
- Foster employee development, satisfaction, employee retention and culture.
- Partner with Regulatory and EHS department to enhance health and safety procedures, work rules, and company standards. Ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory bodies.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements in methods and processes to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Develop plans for the maximum utilization of materials, equipment, and labor.
- Expedite and alter schedules as needed to overcome delays, bottlenecks and unforeseen conditions in order to meet customer expectations.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to work processes, while tenaciously initiating and tracking cost reduction projects.
- Provide strong leadership and communication skills to lead employees.
- Partner with Sales leadership to maximize business results and exceed customer expectations.
Successful Candidate Must:
- Demonstrated leadership experience and abilities including flexibility, communication, and team development, creating a strong accountability, performance-based culture.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Lead by example including strong communication skills that include developing and working with entry level supervisory positions.
- Detail oriented self-starter with excellent follow-up and follow-through and strong analytical and reasoning ability.
- 5-10 years experience as a manager in a similar role.
- Prior experience in mosquito control, aquatic weed control (or similar environmental/operations/services activity) strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of mosquito biology, behavior, and sampling methods preferred.
- Experience or knowledge of the principals and application of an Integrated Pest Management program preferred.
- College degree in related field (biological/environmental sciences, business, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
- Willingness to participate in field operations as part of training and as necessary during times of peak demand or labor shortages.
- Ability to travel upon request to meet the needs of the business.
- Valid drivers' license and clean driving record.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to obtain state licenses as necessary.
- The ability to work independently and think on his/her feet.
- The desire to learn and "go above and beyond" on all projects.
- The ability to effectively partner with employees, management and cross-functional teams to meet performance objectives and to support mission and vision of the Company.
