Operations Training Instructor designs and conducts training and development programs to improve individual and organizational performance JOB DUTIES Understands and applies principles, theories and concepts related to the profession and ERCOT's culture. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Impact is generally limited to specific assignments or projects. May respond to inquiries and/or provide assistance and/or guidance to lower-level workers. ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES Summary: Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of technical training programs. Supports the development of training programs, documenting the basis of training, and utilizing multimedia in the presentation of course materials. Responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of training and seminars as well as the educational and training materials used to support system goals and operational objectives Develops, designs, and maintains Continuing Education Hours for simulator, classroom, and on-the-job-training Develops and implements classroom training May design, develop and maintain scenarios for use in simulator training Provides training for staff on processes, operating and market systems, programs, and developments Employs systematic methodologies in the creation and delivery of classroom, simulator, and on-the-job-training materials Develops and maintains ERCOT System Operating Procedures to support system and market changes, compliance with NERC Reliability Standards, Protocols and ERCOT Guides Prepares progress reports for management Performs the duties of an ERCOT System Operator as required Fosters and leverages strong working relationships with other internal departments Lends professional expertise to guide projects and help teammates assigned by manager Acts as mentor and advisor to less experienced personnel Demonstrates skills as an expert user of grid application, simulator, and training tools Pursues innovations in technology and methods of presentation in an effort to continuously upgrade and advance the training program Contributes to the analysis, design, and development of new training material to be used in the classroom, simulation, seminars, or on-the-job training to support operational goals and objectives Implements, executes, and maintains existing training material used in the classroom, simulation, seminars, and on-the-job training to support operational goals and objectives Develops, designs, and maintains NERC Continuing Education Hours for simulator, classroom, seminars, or on-the-job training Periodically responsible, as scheduled by the Manager of Operations Training, for the coordination, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of individual training cycles including: o The quality and content of material in the cycle o The coordination of SMEs and Training Specialists used in executing the training cycle o The incorporation of both classroom and OTS material o The support of NERC Continuing Education criteria and NERC compliance documentation as required Prepares reports for management as requested Performs other duties as assigned CERTIFICATIONS: NERC Certification preferred and must be obtained within 1 year of start date ERCOT Certification preferred and must be obtained within 1 year of start date EXPERIENCE: Requires minimum 2 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements Salary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOT. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience with Energy Management System (EMS) / Market Management System (MMS). May design and develop training for System Operators on EMS/MMS changes and upgrades Experience in system operations, systems operations support, or EMS/grid application development and support Experience with GE Dispatch Transmission Simulator – DTS Knowledge of Quality Training Systems (QTS) and/or Quality Training Database (QTD) Become a subject matter expert on at least one operations desk position EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree: Education, Learning & Development, Engineering, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related discipline (Required) or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required WORK LOCATION: Onsite - Taylor, TX The foregoing description reflects the minimum qualifications and the essential functions of the position that must be performed proficiently with or without reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities. Expected Salary Range: $85,685 - $145,683 The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to 27 million Texas customers - representing about 90 percent of the state's electric load. Eligible candidates should be enrolled in an academic bachelors or post graduate degree program maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The ERCOT Engineer Development Program (EDP) is a 12- to 16-month, self-paced program geared toward entry-level engineers looking to start a career in the power industry. Through the program, an EDP Engineer receives one-on-one mentoring, specialized training, and exposure to the work performed by each of the engineering groups at ERCOT. The program allows engineers to develop the fundamental skills necessary to reach their full potential while gaining an understanding of the types of engineering work ERCOT has to offer. EDP management supports participants each step of the way as they progress through the program. Upon completion, graduates are placed as full-time engineers within one of ERCOT’s engineering groups. The GMS Development Program (GDP) is designed to provide entry-level and early career professionals with the skills necessary to become successful Power System and Computer Engineers. The program, which is based in ERCOT’s Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) Department, will provide experience in day-to-day work and instruction in the fundamentals of electric power systems engineering, grid and market applications, software programming, and IT service and operations management. The GDP offers one-on-one mentoring, training, field trips, and special assignments. These assignments allow GDP engineers to become knowledgeable and familiar with the various business areas at ERCOT. The GMS leadership team prepares GDP engineers for a future career at ERCOT in power systems and computer engineering. The System Operator Development Program (ODP) is intended to combine real-time daily operations in an exciting work setting to prepare participants with the vital skills necessary to be successful in such a critical position — providing 24x7x365 on-demand support to manage the flow of electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers. If you are new to the industry, this program introduces you to the Bulk Electric System by combining introductory courses with the NERC Certification Exam Preparation Program in preparation to pass the NERC Certification Exam.
