About the Job
The Optical Metrology Tech I follows written Standard Manufacturing Procedures and detailed Work Instructions to process a variety of optics through inspection and measurement for coating operations. The optics and associated witness samples for measurement require careful handling and attention to detail as parts in this stage are typically considered finished goods and can be easily damaged if meticulous protocols are not followed. - Education/Learning Experience
High School Diploma or GED
- Work Experience:
3 years minimum experience as an Optical Technician or equivalent within an optics company. Experience with interferometers, optical test & alignment equipment, spectrophotometers, and metrology methods is preferred.

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

- Effective verbal communication.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Standard Manufacturing Procedures, Work Instructions and equipment operating manuals.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to comprehend and apply common sense understanding sufficient to carry out instructions in written, oral and diagram form.
- Demonstrated ability to properly and consistently handle optics and windows without causing damage.
- Demonstrates basic understanding of the fundamental principles of optical thin-film metrology, tooling and technology.
Working Conditions
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Work in areas with fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Physical Requirements
- Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.

- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
- Requiring close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Safety Requirements
- All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Corporate EHS standards. This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.
- Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed, proper training, work instructions, required PPE is available, and will monitor compliance.
