About Our Eye Care Department
The Eye Care Department, established in 1985, currently employs eight full-time optometrists, providing primary eye care, medical management of ocular disease including glaucoma, management of ocular urgencies and emergencies, full-service contact lens care and co-management of surgical patients. We work closely with affiliated ophthalmologists and sub-specialists in cornea, cataract, glaucoma and retinal care.
The setting is multidisciplinary, with opportunities to consult with on-site physicians in Primary Care, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Radiology, Urgent Care and Chronic Care. We have an electronic medical record system which also facilitates information exchange among practitioners.
About Our Tallahassee Community
Florida's Big Bend region -- home of the state's capital -- is among Florida's most livable communities, with something for everyone, from outdoor enthusiasts to sports fans to lovers of the arts. Leon County is also home to a large aging population: Almost one in five Leon County residents is age 60 or older, and the State of Florida projects that this population will grow by a remarkable 35 percent over the next 12 years, making it the county's fastest growing population segment.
Tallahassee has been ranked among the top livable cities in Florida, in part thanks to a cost-of-living 5.5% below the national average and an excellent school system. The variety of people who call it home - from students and families to legislators and athletes- make it a prime spot for new business ventures, especially with the city boasting the fastest growing economy per capita of any Florida city. Three universities support lifelong and cutting edge research. And Florida's capital city is home to a thriving medical community, centered around two full-service hospitals and Capital Health Plan, one of the nation's highest-rated health plans.
There is nothing quite like an autumn Saturday in one of our cities two college football stadiums, where the community comes together to cheer on Florida State University or Florida A&M University. If you enjoy communing with nature, no other city in Florida has more running and walking trails. Tallahassee is also home to nationally recognized parks. Cascades Park, just steps from downtown, hosts everything from concerts to festivals to open-air movie screenings -plus cultural opportunities galore, including the Museum of Florida History and numerous art galleries.
Come see why Tallahassee is the perfect blend of history and community, an ideal place to work and play, and -- like the stately live oak trees it is nestled under -- a great place to put down roots.
