About the Role

We are currently seeking a Production Operations Manager for our Dayton, Oregon nursery. In this critical role, you will oversee the execution, and management of all production at the nursery to achieve all company targets in terms of quality standards, quantities, costing, safety, schedules, and production budgeting. To do so, you will train and develop your team of Crop Growers, setting nursery wide priorities and allocation of resources to accomplish goals.
What You’ll Do
You will…
- Oversee all Crop Growers, training them on principles of managing craftsmen, plant care, and the use of mechanization and automation for improved productivity.
- Develop Crop Growers on prioritizing crop requirements utilizing the field estimate process, seeking alternative approaches, and adjusting resources between areas to ensure nursery operations function in unison.
- Lead meetings to coordinate activities and provide ongoing training.
- Monitor, measure, and share production efficiency in the department, coaching the Crop Growers for optimum efficiency.
- Ensure consistent application of Monrovia best practices (MNQ), and environmental standards in all production activities to deliver plants meeting Monrovia quality standards including the selection and labeling of plants for the assembly process.
- Represent and enforce Monrovia values and philosophy, supporting the operating plan using Lean Six Sigma tools and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Serve as an Important contributing member of the management team providing information to and from the department.
- Participate in setting production levels and schedules for future years.
Who You Are
You…
- Have at least a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and a minimum of 5 years of nursery production experience.
- Have detailed knowledge of plants, equipment, and processes used in the growing of high-quality plants.
- Have experience working within an (ERP) Enterprise Resource Planning environment.
- Proficient at oral and written communication, possess excellent listening skills and ideally are bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Have excellent math and computer skills and are proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite with a high level of understanding for reporting systems like BI.
- Can coordinate and delegate teams under high stress situations while developing effective working relationships.
- Have strong organizational skills, detail orientation, and focus on quality and accuracy.
- Can multi-task and work under deadlines and have the proven ability to coordinate and delegate to team members under high pressure situations to meet team goals.
- Have a high tolerance for ambiguity, uncertainty, and diversity in the workplace.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Can stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. Lift up to 20 pounds at a time. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
