About the Job
Atrium Health Department of Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Surgery (AH-OMMS) is actively seeking an outstanding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to join their growing practice of two full-time Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and three Oral Medicine providers. Starting in 2022, faculty within Atrium Health OMFS Department will also fall within the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Wake Forest School of Medicine with clinical academic appointments. The Department of Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Surgery at Atrium Health and affiliated hospitals contributes to the health and well-being of our community by providing the highest level of care to every patient through integrated, evidence-based clinical practice, education, and research, under the division of surgery and ambulatory care.
In 2021, the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery treated over 2,200 patients and performed over 350 hospital-based procedures. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department primarily provides dentoalveolar, facial trauma, pathology, orthognathic, and TMJ surgical services in outpatient (hospital/OR and office-based) and inpatient settings. The OMFS Department works collaboratively with the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical colleagues within Atrium Health. The current needs of the population, hospital case load, and institutional support has cultivated a unique opportunity to develop a robust surgical practice within a busy and fast-growing department.
Details about the opportunity include:
- Primary responsibility is direct patient care, in an office setting at AH-OMMS and inpatient hospital setting at Atrium Health - Carolinas Medical Center and University City Hospital
- The OMFS and OM practices work closely together at AH-OMMS for the management of pathologic conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region
- Participation in the Oral and Maxillofacial Service call and Facial Trauma call coverage at a busy, level one trauma center
- Abundant and excellent support staff (clinical and administrative)
- Coordination of multidisciplinary care in an academic environment (including Levine Cancer Institute, Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, Transplant Center, Trauma Service, and others)
- Clinical and didactic instruction of Oral Medicine and General Practice residents at AH-OMMS and at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (tertiary care hospital) while residents are rotating on OMFS Service
- Average provider tenure is 10 years
- Opportunities to participate in ongoing departmental academic activities (e.g.: education and research)
- Clinical academic appointment within Wake Forest School of Medicine
Skills / Requirements:
- 5 years of experience preferred
- Qualified candidates must be Board Certified or Board Eligible for American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS)
