Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 5,400 TK-College students across 29 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Athletic Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of physical education programs and activities within the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula as well as at our partner schools and school districts. You will plan, develop, and oversee implementation and supervise programs and program staff. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong and productive relationships with partner organizations and schools in order to expand our impact and reach. This role involves managing administrative, logistical, and strategic tasks to support athletes, coaches, and the overall success of the sports program. This role will report to the Assistant Director of Sports Leagues.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
What will you do?
Prepare Youth For Success:
Plan and oversee the administration of the Physical Education Enrichment Program and all Athletic program activities.
Plan, develop, and implement recreational sports activities at the clubhouse to engage youth in healthy physical fitness activities and to develop long term fitness habits.
Use athletics to engage youth in a process of continuous growth through tracking and building athletic skill and physical fitness.
Develop youth understanding and practice of good sportsmanship and teamwork through competition and direct instruction.
Development Framework:
Establish clubhouse program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
Oversee the provision of the day-to-day Physical Education Enrichment program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop sportsmanship, teamwork and skills in Physical Education and Athletics.
Demonstrate leadership to assure good conduct, safety, and development of members.
Help youth discover their passions and steer them into structured programs.
Provide career pathways to youth in the form of a Coach Em Up Program.
Program Development and Implementation:
Establish and maintain Clubhouse Physical Education Enrichment and Athletic goals in settings that ensure the health and safety of the members.
Ensure that the site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of the program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit, clean and sanitary; and that the club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Organize and implement an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic and athletic success in accordance with the Boys and Girls Club.
Plan and teach physical education classes/intramural lunchtime sports to students at our partner middle and high schools when necessary.
Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
Ensure continual evaluation of the Physical Education Enrichment and Athletic programs.
Ensure that the Physical Education and Enrichment and Athletic programs respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
Determines, measures, evaluates, and reports performance metrics.
Analyzes similar after school youth programs.
Control Athletic Department programming and activity expenditures within the approved budget.
Supervision:
Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.
Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
Oversee the proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted.
Ensure productive and effective performance by all Athletic Department staff and volunteers.
Be physically present for all Athletic offerings at the clubhouse to maintain supervision and high quality services.
Marketing and Public Relations
Increase visibility of Club Athletic programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements on upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, flyers, and media releases.
Establish community and school partnerships where appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities:
Coaching, officiating, and otherwise facilitating athletic leagues, specifically Indoor Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball and Flag Football.
Teaching the elements of ROOTS: Respect for the Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, and Self.
Modeling and teaching participants to Honor the Game through fair play and sportsmanship.
Developing and structuring sports leagues: evaluating players, creating balanced teams, league rules and schedules.
Oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Awards Programs), and/or participate in other unit activities as necessary.
Drive club van periodically to help leagues run.
Consult with parents concerning Athletic members and club issues.
Work with BGCP development department to help secure funding for the Athletic department.
Maintain close daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and counsel.
Maintain contact as needed with external groups, schools, donors, and member’s parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or applicable work experience.
3+ years of work experience in similar organization planning and supervising activities based on developmental needs of children.
Prior coaching and officiating experience.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
Demonstrated organizational, staff, and project management abilities.
Passion for working with youth.
Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squating, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 80% walking & standing. Work environment noise level is usually moderate but can be noisy at times. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.
LOCATION
Orange Park Clubhouse with travel to other school sites as needed, and other BGCP clubhouses for special Athletic events
WORK SCHEDULE
Monday - Friday: 11:30am - 8:30pm
or
Tuesday - Friday: 11:30am - 8:30pm and Saturday 8:00pm - 5:00pm
SALARY & BENEFITS
Employment Status: Full-Time Salary
Pay Range: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 depending on experience (DOE)
