This position supports the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) in areas related to the day-to-day management of research and sponsored projects compliance. The Specialist provides administrative support to the College’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Research Advisory Council (RAC), and the Student Research Program. The Specialist provides institutional compliance oversight of projects and programs administered through ORSP and supports the overall mission of the ORSP.
- This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Research
- This position is exempt.
- This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work arrangement.
- The starting salary for this position is $65,000 depending on experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Assistant Dean for Research in the development of new and maintenance of existing institutional policies and procedures that are required for ORSP institutional and regulatory compliance.
- Support the Assistant Dean for Research in monitoring compliance with training requirements; serve as the College CITI training administrator; coordinate regular webinars and in-person continuing education for ORSP stakeholders.
- Provide administrative support to the College IRB and IBC; manage the administration of IRB and IBC protocols; maintain required IRB and IBC registrations; assist the Assistant Dean for Research and the Committee chairs in committee administration and regulatory compliance oversight.
- Serve as the liaison and a resource for the Burrell research community on matters involving human subject research; ensure that IRB members are informed of any changes in regulatory compliance that apply to Human Subjects Research.
- Provide administrative support for the College Research Advisory Council.
- Provide administrative support to the Student Research Program, including administration of the Distinction in Research program, manage the administration of Directed Studies Electives and student requests for non-clinical research electives, and track student research compliance training.
- Support the Director of Student Research in organizing, program development, and hosting the annual Summer Research Experience.
- Support the Director of Student Research in organizing, program development, and hosting the Medical Student Research Day.
- Conduct periodic reviews of the ORSP website and coordinate research website updates.
- Serve as backup to the ORSP Sponsored Projects Administration Specialist position, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Familiarity with sponsored projects administration, regulatory oversight, and compliance.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills; a strong team player.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat products.
- Excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
- Experience with taking meeting minutes.
- Experience working in a complex office environment.
- Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of ten years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree
- At least five years of relevant experience
- Experience in a compliance function within a higher education or healthcare environment.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or similar certification.
- Familiarity with Human Subjects Research Regulations
- Familiarity with CITI Training Program administration

Work environment: Office environment. Minimal outside travel may be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
Work Schedule:
- Typically, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm
- May occasionally require evenings and weekends.
