Orthopedist - Los Angeles Christian Health Centers

• Perform evaluation and treatment of patients in the outpatient setting at Los Angeles Christian Health Centers sites. 
• Assess medical needs and compile care plans, addressing acute needs, chronic conditions, and preventive health maintenance. 
• Furnish/transmit appropriate medications and treatments. Perform in-office procedures such as incision and drainage, arthrocentesis, nail removal, skin biopsy, cryotherapy, joint injections and additional subspecialty procedures per subspecialists.
• Setting broken bones with braces, pins, splints, or casts, diagnosing injuries or illnesses to bones, joints, and ligaments, and correcting defects to the musculoskeletal system.
• Taking patients’ histories, using specialized equipment to determine the extent of a fraction or injury, and determining the best mode of treatment.
• Performing blood tests to check for degenerative bone conditions.
• Strengthening an area of the body through exercise, ultrasounds, and strength training.
• Surgically repairing bones, nerves, ligaments, tendons, and joints to promote healing.
• Treating acute and chronic injuries and pain.
• Prescribing medications to aid patients in their recovery.
• Monitoring patients’ healing processes and making necessary adjustments to their treatment plans.
• Arranging rehabilitation plans after surgeries.
• Supervising and assigning duties to nurses and other medical staff, and,
• Referring patients to other specialists for further treatment or recovery plans.
• Enhancing your abilities and remaining up to date through attending medical conferences and courses.
• Keep accurate, concise, and thorough documentation of all medical history, exam findings, assessment, treatment/interventions, and education.
• Arrive at work punctually at the start time.  Punctual arrival of licensed providers is essential for the processing and preparation of patients.
• Complete documentation and lock progress notes in a timely manner.  The clinic’s requirement is to lock all progress notes within 3 calendar days.
• Review and electronically sign off on all laboratory results, diagnostic results, and outside consult notes in a timely manner, ensuring patient is contacted for follow up if clinically appropriate. 
• Initiate and follow through on specialist referrals and e-consults (electronic consults), communicating with specialist providers as necessary, in the provision of whole- person care.
• Follow through on all sub specialist referrals and e-consults (electronic consults), communicating with additional staff to coordinate. 
• Provide recommendations for follow up sub specialist providers as necessary, provide assistance in the provision of whole person care.  
• Ensure x-ray and other images are ordered completed and interpreted if medically indicated.
• Serve as the subspecialist in patient care, or, if a physical therapist, centered medical home for our patients.
• Primary care physician for a panel of patients, working with a care team and other staff at LACHC to serve as a patient- centered medical home for our patients.
• Clinically supervise Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) employed that LACHC if needed.
• This includes and reporting findings to the Chief Medical Officer.
• This includes ongoing clinical supervision of designated APPs and as-needed clinical supervision of other APPs.
• Conjointly supervise medical assistants/nurses to improve care team efficiency and efficacy, along with Medical Assistant Supervisor.
• Participate in LACHC meetings including morning “team huddles”, Provider Meetings, and All-Staff Meetings.
• Actively participate in spiritual care for patients and staff which may include prayer and referral to community resources.
• Provide compassionate, competent care for patients who, depending on the clinic site, may experience homelessness, may suffer from mental illness or substance use disorder, and often lack resources to care well for themselves.
• If seeing adult patients, may be asked to complete waiver training to provide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in order to care for patients with substance use disorder.
• Actively participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities at LACHC, including teaching other providers on selected topics, implementing team- based care, participating in peer reviews, evaluating clinical performance measures, and implementing improvements using a Plan-Do-Study-Act method of stepwise changes.
• Meet productivity standards for outpatient primary care at LACHC, including an expectation of 18 patients seen per usual 8-hour day for usual face- to -face visits.

• Periodically serve “on call” for the clinic, answering urgent phone calls from agencies. 
• Network with other health care agencies and county facilities as needed or requested.
• Maintain active enrollment in Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and other payor programs as needed for clinical operations, completing credentialing paperwork in a timely manner to remain actively enrolled in these programs.
• Other duties may be assigned.

• Bilingual Spanish preferred.

• Licensed to practice physical therapy if a physical therapist. A copy of license is needed.
• A medical degree in orthopedics and the successful completion of a fellowship and residency.
• A license and certification to practice medicine
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• A good working knowledge of the methods and equipment used in orthopedics.
• Flexibility and the ability to work shifts and remain on call for emergency situations.

Los Angeles Christian Health Centers opened in 1995 with a handful of staff but a big vision to render hope and healing through healthcare to the thousands of homeless and low-income residents living in Los Angeles County. Today, 120 staff members serve the County’s most vulnerable populations from our two full-time health centers in Skid Row and Boyle Heights. We also provide comprehensive medical care at our 10 part-time satellite clinics hosted by our community partners throughout Downtown Los Angeles and Watts.
