About the Job
Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. We are currently seeking a full-time Outreach Specialist to be based in the Women's Day Center of our new building on Pittsburgh's Northside.
This position assists and cares for the street homeless who enter the Center on a regular basis. The emphasis is to meet female guests' immediate needs while providing Christian hospitality and safety. Outreach staff will work collaboratively with other organizations and actively seek to build relationships with the homeless and influence them to move out of the streets into our recovery program.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Creates service plans and provides case management to care for the immediate and long-term needs of street homeless individuals.
- Trains volunteers for service in the Outreach program
- Communicates and collaborates with Light of Life staff and outside organizations to address general homeless issues.
- Creates partnerships with other social service agencies.
- Analyzes data for the County's homeless management system and Light of Life's in-house data management system.
- Occasionally visits homeless camps with peers in order to understand and build relationships with the homeless population.
Due to the interface with the clients, Light of Life considers every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and as such, requires employees to:
- Participate in the ministry of Light of Life Rescue Mission and walk alongside clients sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them through actions and words.
- Resolve all issues in ways that promote the principles of Light of Life while following the processes described in the Light of Life staff handbook.
- Practice Christlike stewardship of all resources.
- Subscribe to and embrace Light of Life's Statement of Faith, Values, and Principles.
Requirements/Certifications
- Valid PA Driver's License with clean driving record
- Excellent organization and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage various tasks simultaneously
- Works exceptionally well in a team environment
- Competent in the use of personal computers, including Microsoft Suite products with the ability to learn new proprietary software.
- Strong interpersonal skills; compassionate and patient; able to create a safe and comfortable environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field preferred
- 2-3 years counseling/case management experience preferred
- Previous experience working in human services
- Knowledge of drug, alcohol, and mental illness helpful
