Summary/Objective: Under immediate supervision, Outside Machinist Level 1 install new machines or heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings, and dismantles and installs machines or heavy equipment when changes in the plant layout are required. Entry Level.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Under direction and constant supervision of the Foreman, repairs, modifies and overhauls various types of equipment and/or systems.
- Performs and understands the basic set up, alignment, and operation of various portable machining tools/equipment and hand tools used in the trade.
- Assists with performance of on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs, and system configuration validation.
- Strictly adheres to corporate, federal, state, and local safety regulations prior to setting up or operating any machinery and ensures that all required Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and that all damaged PPE is discarded.
- Follows detailed repair procedures and instructions required to complete the production operations (QA Workbooks, Work package steps, RECs, CWPs, FWPs, TGls, etc.)
- Maintains good housekeeping practices, turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste properly, sweeping the area, etc.
- Coordinates the efforts of other trades during an installation, modification, or repair operation.
- Communicates any unsatisfactory condition(s) identified during the production operation to the Foreman.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Position and fasten workpieces.
- Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
- Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, in-order to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.
- Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics.

Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain DBIDS.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in Outside Machining capacity.
- Knowledge of shipboard mechanical systems and blueprint reading.
- Ability to work at heights confined spaces, overhead structures, or beneath machinery and access/move around ships safely.
Work Environment: This job operates in a Shipyard work environment.
Travel: This position does not require the ability to travel.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The physical demands for this position are light to moderate.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds of weight, frequently stop and/or bend.
- Visual abilities required incudes close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and color recognition.
- Must be able to spend 70% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.
