Outside Referral Specialist 

Responsibilities

• Follows the order of screening, making the referral and tracking service of referral.
• Ensures patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits.
• Resolves pre-certification, registration and case-related concerns prior to a patient's appointment.
• Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient is not financially obligated for services provided.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
• Process referrals in a timely fashion, including sorting and processing referrals by indicated urgency and date.
• Refer patients to specialists based on each insurance company’s available specialty network.
• Document and enter all referrals appropriately in patients’ medical records.
• Educate the patients on the referral process including their own responsibilities as well as their insurance company’s process and protocols in regards to a referral.
• Verify that providers have sufficiently documented the reason for the referral and have done the appropriate work ups prior to sending the patient to the specialist.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• The position is located in Montgomery, TX
• Organizational skills a plus
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Computer experience required
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines
• Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to perform assigned tasks independently
• Good verbal and written communication skills
