We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Overnight Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in veterinary medicine, particularly in emergency and critical care. As an Overnight Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care during the night shift, supporting veterinarians in emergency procedures, and ensuring the overall well-being of our hospitalized patients. This position includes a shift differential of $2 per hour for all hours worked after midnight (12 AM).
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Monitor and assess the health of hospitalized animals, including vital signs, behavior, and overall condition. Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Emergency Response: Assist in emergency procedures, including triage, intubation, and wound management. Be prepared to act quickly and effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Technical Skills: Perform a variety of technical procedures, such as blood draws, catheter placements, radiography, and laboratory tests. Ensure proper handling and care of medical equipment.
- Client Communication: Provide clear and compassionate communication to pet owners regarding their pets’ conditions, treatment plans, and post-operative care instructions. Address any concerns and provide emotional support.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients. Document treatments, observations, and changes in patient conditions in a timely manner.
- Cleanliness and Safety: Uphold stringent hygiene standards in all areas of the hospital. Clean and maintain medical equipment and facilities to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Collaboration: Work closely with veterinarians and other veterinary staff to develop and implement patient care plans. Participate in team meetings to discuss cases and improve protocols.
- Training and Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior staff and veterinary assistants, promoting a culture of learning and excellence within the team.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Education: Associate’s degree or higher in Veterinary Technology from an accredited institution strongly preferred. Must at least have High School Diploma, and relative work experience to be considered.
- Licensing: Valid veterinary technician license (LVT, RVT, or CVT) is preferred but not required.
- Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or emergency veterinary setting, with a strong background in emergency and critical care.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in veterinary medical procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and laboratory diagnostics.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and provide compassionate care to both patients and clients.
- Critical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Availability: Must be able to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.
