The PA Specialist - Medical Assistant works under the Nurse Manager to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care. This position assists in training new medical assistants. Focus will be the completion of Prior Authorizations (PA's) for both Outpatient Medical Services and TMS. Will provide back-up to MAs, TMS, and residential settings. Under direct supervision of a physician, assists Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation patients in receiving the prescribed treatment according to established procedures and protocols.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Submit authorizations for drug refills to the pharmacy as directed and complete drug prior
authorization forms as needed. - Prepare, document and complete prior authorization forms for medication, treatment and TMS
procedure as needed. - Prepare samples and document in record; contact patient as directed.
- Train new and existing staff in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
- Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes. Assists in
organizing and participating in quality improvement activities such as DLA20 to improve services. - Retrieve information from medication line and forward this information as a task to the Nurses'
inbox, as backup if needed. - Attends meetings as needed for training on new work flows and procedures.
- Assist with clinical procedures, facilitate the flow of patients through the office or clinic, document
patient history, record vital signs and allergies as needed, and communicate internally as
appropriate to coordinate services
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- High School diploma required
- Certification as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one year Medical Assistant
Program required. - Complete TMS technical training for technician
Work Experience:
- Three years previous Medical Assistant experience in a behavioral health setting required.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
and electronic medication and medical records data entry preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of medical records documentation requirements.
- Knowledge of routine oral and injectable medications, baseline vital signs, and procedures to alert
providers when vital signs are outside normal range. - Ability to pass a pre-employment physical with a drug and alcohol screen
