Company: Goforth Williamson, Inc. (GWI) is one of the leading municipal pump service and sales companies in the state of Georgia. GWI boasts the largest repair facility in the state of Georgia for municipal water and wastewater pumps, is a sales rep for the biggest pump manufacturer in the world, and has an entire controls division complete with a UL 508A and 698A panel shop. Position: We are seeking to fill the role of Panel Shop Technician. This position reports directly to the Controls Division Manager. This role will encompass building all types of custom control panels in our panel shop from engineered drawing packages. The controls division is relatively new at GWI, so this is an opportunity to become part of the foundation of a successful organization as it continues to expand. We are looking for someone to be intrinsically self‐motivated, a strong team player, and hungry to help make GWI the authority on pump station controls in Georgia.
This is a full‐time position. GWI offers a competitive hourly wage and benefits package for this position including medical, dental, vision, long and short‐term disability insurances as well as an HSA and a 401k plan.
Qualifications:
- Although 2‐3 years' working experience in panel building or residential or commercial wiring is preferred, candidates with no experience who have the right attitude and exhibit the appropriate technical aptitude will be considered.
- Candidates who have a basic working knowledge of electricity is a bonus but not required. Familiarity with electrical schematics is a bonus but not required.
- The ability to lift things that are heavy and work on your feet.
- Candidates must want to work with their hands.
- Basic experience with power tools, such as drills, jigsaws, cutting wheels, etc.
- Good communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and able to learn new tasks and take on new challenges.
- Most importantly, the right candidate will have a good attitude
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
- Mounting components on a back panel based on a drawing of the layout. Components must be straight and level and all spacings must be correct.
- This includes:
o Laying out components and checking measurements.
o Drilling and tapping holes in the back panel.
o Securing components onto back panel with machine screws.
- Creating holes in metal enclosure, which includes:
o Marking holes or rectangular cutouts.
o Using drills to drill holes.
o Using a cutting wheel or jigsaw to make rectangular holes and keeping the cuts neat and clean.
o Using a Greenlee style punch to punch out circular holes.
- Mounting components onto dead front doors, outer doors, or outer walls of panels.
- Wiring panels based on engineered drawings using correct wire types, sizes, and colors.
- Labeling all wires and components.
- Moving panels around from work cell to work cell and to the testing area using pallet jack or hydraulic lift.
- Safely connecting panels to electrical feeds for live testing.
- Printing wire labels using special printer and creating nameplates with engraving machine.
- Cleaning up of panels when ready to ship.
- Keeping up with all tools and keeping panel shop neat and clean.
- Keeping up with inventory of consumable items in panel shop.
- Submitting reports and taking pictures of panels upon completion.
