Legal Assistant Responsibilities:
- Working closely with attorneys on civil litigation cases;
- Draft original answers;
- Draft discovery requests and responses;
- Draft motion and other pleadings as required;
- Calendar trial and pretrial deadlines;
- Manage attorney calendars and deadlines;
- E-file pleadings with various district courts;
- Coordinate mediations and depositions;
- Perform duties administrative in nature pertaining to cases.
The ideal candidate for the position must be able to function well in a fast-paced, professional environment, be extremely organized, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to perform tasks with minimal supervision. The ability to prioritize, multi-task, take initiative, and meet deadlines is essential. The candidate must have a high level of efficiency and accuracy in dealing with detailed work.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; Some college or recent graduate of 2 year paralegal certificate program preferred, but not required
- Minimum 4 years as a legal assistant, this is not an entry level position
- Outstanding computer skills and knowledge including, but not limited to, the following: Windows 10, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with the E-file system
- Experience with Docuware is helpful, but not required
- Experience with Clio billing system is helpful, but not required
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written communication
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently and as part of a team, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and a self-starter
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to travel by car.
