PARALEGAL
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office (“SCDA”) is one of the largest prosecutors’ offices in the country and has recently launched a number of cutting-edge initiatives and reforms that have put it on the national stage for innovation. SCDA Paralegals work in direct support of criminal prosecutions and investigations, assisting our Assistant District Attorneys to prosecute criminals and protect victims.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
- Conduct legal research;
- Prepare case briefs;
- Draft routine motion papers in criminal matters, and after review by an attorney, file papers with the court;
- Gather records in support of discovery
- Draft of responses to Complaints or Demand Discoveries
Starting salary is approximately $45,300, with annual step increases, top benefit package and pension.
We have an immediate need for Paralegals to work in several of our bureaus and seek Paralegals who meet the below minimum qualifications to join the SCDA Team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies; or,
(b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree, and successful completion of a Paralegal Assistant certificate program given by a college or business school with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State; or,
(c) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with an Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies and two (2) years of clerical experience in a law office, at least one (1) year of which included drafting motions and doing preliminary legal research; or,
(d) Successful completion of a Paralegal Assistant certificate program given by a college or business school with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State and three (3) years of clerical experience in a law office, at least two (2) years of which included drafting motions and doing preliminary legal research
