Position Summary: Carry out legal tasks and administration with high
levels of accuracy, demonstrating well reasoned independent judgment in
a high volume and fast paced environment. This role is under the direct
supervision of the Supervisor of Paralegals.
Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assuring that all legal documents, agreements,
disclosures, etc. are complete, accurate, up-to-date, and processed
in a timely basis within SOC's policies and procedures as well as
within court appointed deadlines. Ensure that the previously
mentioned are properly organized in reference binders, files, and
computer databases, and are processed with exemplary follow up and
diligence.
- Perform various other legal tasks as needed and assigned including:
acting as liaison between the bankruptcy attorney and central office
personnel, field personnel, and agencies in accumulating, analyzing,
and summarizing data and other facts, drafting correspondence and
analyzing statutes, regulations and cases for answers to specific
questions posed by attorneys and preparing memoranda setting forth
the results, specifically as it pertains to bankruptcies
- Recommend potential losses to portfolio managers on a weekly basis
- Assist with UCC terminations, continuations, etc
- Assist Civil litigation paralegals with account placements to our
vendor law firms
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Paralegal certificate or willingness to work toward certificate
- Associate or Bachelors Degree plus 2-4 years of experience in a
financial services environment preferred
- Knowledge of bankruptcy law is preferred
- Ability to speak, in detail, on all major accounts as well as any
files currently being worked as part of a weekly review or deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge including Microsoft Word and
Excel
Functional expertise through experience and/or education in:
- Bankruptcy law
- Legal writing skills
- Credit Law
- Finance
- Infolease
- Negotiations
Characteristics:
- Individual must be proactive, very well organized, adaptive,
flexible and must possess an excellent work ethic as well as be a
team player
Effort: Normal working hours; some overtime expected
Working Environment: Normal office environment
