We are seeking a Paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to the Ethics and Compliance (E&C) Office and other components of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC).
As a Paralegal, you will...
- Work closely with attorneys in OGC to provide legal, administrative, and related support integral to the organization’s operations.
- Maintain databases, assist in producing reports; organize and manage legal files and electronic document control/filing; assist in litigation document production; and, facilitate responses to subpoenas and garnishments.
- Conduct legal research to support attorneys in providing legal advice to internal clients.
- Track legal developments for key issues impacting the Lab.
- Assist the Lab with critical legal and compliance matters.
- Assist attorneys and professional staff with scheduling and calendaring.
- Assist attorneys in managing agreements with third parties that are not otherwise managed by other APL organizations.
- Interact with APL’s management, other internal clients, and outside contacts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Have an Associate's degree from an accredited U.S. institution, with three or more years of specific paralegal experience with a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Have strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize among a wide variety of projects;
- Have strong skills in data and internet research, written and verbal communication, and building professional relationships;
- Have strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office;
- Possess an ability to work closely with a wide variety of staff from diverse backgrounds and levels, including all levels of management both within the organization and with government agencies;
- Have a demonstrated ability to work independently and be a standout colleague;
- Possess a dedicated work ethic, sound judgment, professional demeanor, and be customer focused and discreet;
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a final Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Previously provided support for an ethics and compliance function.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Legal Studies from an accredited U.S. institution or a paralegal certificate.
- An active Security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
