Job Summary:
Well known criminal firm seeks a Litigation Paralegal. They will provide critical support to attorneys by managing case files, preparing legal documents, conducting research, and assisting with trial preparation. This role requires a strong understanding of litigation procedures, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Assist attorneys in managing and organizing case files, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- Track and manage case deadlines, court dates, and other key events.
- Prepare and file legal documents, such as complaints, motions, and discovery requests.
Discovery and Evidence:
- Coordinate and conduct discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, reviewing documents, and organizing evidence.
- Manage and organize evidence and exhibits for use in court, including preparing exhibit lists and ensuring proper labeling and handling.
Legal Research and Documentation:
- Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to ongoing litigation.
- Draft and proofread legal documents, correspondence, and reports.
- Prepare trial binders, witness lists, and other trial-related materials.
Client and Witness Interaction:
- Communicate with clients to gather information, provide case updates, and address inquiries.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings, depositions, and interviews with clients, witnesses, and experts.
- Assist in preparing clients and witnesses for depositions and court appearances.
Court Filings and Hearings:
- Prepare and file court documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and trials to assist attorneys, take notes, and manage exhibits.
Administrative Support:
- Manage attorneys’ calendars, including scheduling appointments, court dates, and deadlines.
- Perform general office duties, including answering phones, managing correspondence, and maintaining office supplies.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of [5] years of experience as a litigation paralegal.
- Proficiency with legal research tools, case management software, and court filing systems.
- Strong understanding of litigation procedures, court rules, and legal terminology.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification from a recognized paralegal or legal assistant organization (e.g., NALA, NFPA) is a plus.
- Familiarity with criminal law is preferred.
