Under the direction of the Emergency and Transport Services Operations Supervisor and the daily supervision of the Lead Paramedic, the Paramedic has responsibility for the delivery of pre-hospital patient care for neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The Paramedic will act in accordance with Act 37, Title 28, Bucks and Montgomery protocols, and hospital policies and procedures. The Paramedic functions as an EMT – Paramedic in the Advanced Life Support Unit, performing procedures as outlined by Act 37, to provide quality pre-hospital care to neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Essential Functions:
- Accepts orders from approved Medical Command physicians, and promptly implements interventions. When appropriate, provides pre-hospital care according to established PA DOH, regional BLS and ALS protocols
- Supervises EMT, Advanced EMT and EMT-Paramedic students and approved observers on the ALSU. Provides appropriate instruction and participates in performance evaluation
- Operates, restocks, and maintains the ALSU vehicle, to ensure a constant state of readiness
- Assists with rescue and extrication of patients. Is able to function safely and effectively in hazardous environments to ensure stabilization and safety of patients and other personnel
- Works with local EMS, fire, and law enforcement agencies in a coordinated effort on the patient’s behalf
- When Transport Division office is closed, obtains information and coordinates efforts to arrange ambulance or wheelchair van transportation
- When not performing the functions of an EMT – Paramedic (responding to ALSU calls), functions in the Department of Emergency Medicine according to the job description of the Patient Care Associate, under the direction of the charge nurse and the professional staff
- Maintains clinical knowledge, skills and required certifications to include a Grand View Health approved yearly skills verification process in order to provide quality patient care
- Appropriately documents pre-hospital patient assessment and interventions, according to PA DOH and regional guidelines
- Functions independently without supervision in a non-structured environment and quickly adapts to the situation, spontaneously meeting the patient's changing needs
- Demonstrates ability to stay calm and make sound decisions in adverse conditions while maintaining integrity and compassion
Schedule: Three 12 hour shifts per week, 2 weekend shifts in a 3 week period
Qualifications:Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED, required
Licenses and Certifications:
Paramedic – Licensed
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Valid Driver's License
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
PHTLS certification, Upon hire
